Just watched some footage of one of Irelands finest. Looked to be a good pressure fighter with a kinda bob and weaving almost Archie Moore-esque attack. Although he looked to me more of a brawler than Moore. Piled on alot of pressure effectivly and looked to use his right hand which was very powerful. Surprisingly for such an aggresive fighter he had a pretty decent guard using the aforementioned Moore guard but also a traditional one. Thoughts?
Someone I really ought to find out a bit more about, one of my uncle's pals used to be an amateur heavyweight and he knew Rinty fairly well, says he was a great guy and iirc quite a joker (I'd drank about 15 pints of guinness when this convo took place and it was a couple of years ago). I've seen clips of him on docus, all I really know about him is his reputation for bravery.
Really good fighter although I have only saw 20 mins of footage the fight with Paterson (the third) was pretty good and the ending was amazing. There was also footage of the Morina (first) bout where Monaghan was DQ'd but it is only 1 minute long
great wee fighter. very tough. held 5 titles at the same time which is astounding when you think of it. remembered very fondly in belfast is john joeseph monaghan by people of a certain age and fightfans. sadly not too many outside of this group would know of him which is a shame
