He confirmed this in a recent interview.

Eugene, after your "golden" performance at the Olympics in Rio, you expected new achievements from you, and you took a break. What is the reason for this?

    - Pause is primarily due to the fact that I want to go to the pros. I hope to soon be able to please their fans.

    - Your final fight with the Kazakh Levit at OI-2016 was watched by the whole country, what was the most difficult for you in Rio?

"It's been quite a while." Of course, emotions cooled down. I can only say that after the Olympics I am the happiest person. Especially after the final.

    - In one of the interviews you said that after the end of your sports career you will serve in the protection of the president, was it a joke or are such plans still there?

    - While other plans interfere (smiles)

    - After the triumph at the Olympics two years have passed, passers-by recognize on the street?

    - Of course, it happens.

    - Eugene, you, of course, watched the Gassiyev confrontation - Usik. What was your impression of the fight, the Ukrainian defeated deservedly?

    - Of course, Sasha won. Or are there other options? (laughs)

    - And the last question. After the OI-2016, you went to the world championships in Hamburg, where you won silver, and then - a pause. When to wait for your return to the big ring?

    - As I said, there are plans to go to the pros. I hope to debut soon. Right now, active negotiations are underway, "Tischenko admitted.

This is huge for cruiserweight or heavyweight. Altough, I think he will go straight to heavyweight.

This dude has flown way under the radar. Googled him and found barely anything. Not even a wikipedia.

He works at police and he took break from amateur boxing but took part in some competition some months ago and won, actually in two competitions in a row.

Quality amateur but he needs to give Vassily McLevit his gold medal

I think Vasil will turn pro as well but only after World Championhips as he won't participate in Olympic games because boxig is bound to be excluded as a sport from the upcoming Olympic games.

Tischenko ie extremely durable and have good hand speed and is tall with a good jab and has very good workrate. His amateur experience is imprresive as well. In amateurs he has faced all the top names with exception of Joshua.

I rate him very highly and I think he'd definitely win a world title if he decided to turn over, but he's already 30 years old and someone on here said they'd heard he had no intention of joining the pro ranks. Hopefully that's not the case and he decides to turn over if they exclude boxing from the Olympics (which I really hope they don't, btw). He's not only an excellent fighter but he's also an absolute class act out of the ring as well. Who would do such a thing after being robbed blind of winning an Olympic gold medal and achieving their lifelong dream?

'In the 2016 Olympic final Levit was controversially defeated by Russia's Evgeny Tishchenko via a unanimous judge's decision. The crowd reacted with shock and anger to the result, and several boxing professionals criticised the decision, with some suggesting Levit should have been awarded all three rounds. At the medal ceremony, Levit put his fingers to his lips to discourage the crowd from booing Tischenko. Afterwards, Levit said that he felt that he had won the fight, but declined to criticise the judges and said that Tischenko deserved respect.'

Actually, he has said that he will turn pro after World Championships, so that says much.

He didn’t deserve that medal, his win was the biggest robbery of the tournament from all the action I personally observed

With Tischenko turning pro that means that 6/10 of the olympic champions are pro or turning pro, Dusmatov, Zoirov, Lopez and La Cruz can also turn pro in the future, Zoirov is looking quite good at 56 while Lopez and La Cruz aren't looking as good as they did in Rio.
