Rios is going to be the one being bullied by a bigger man for a change. This match signals that Top Rank no longer sees him as a reliable future star.

Alvarado's proly the tougher dude but that's not what's going to win here. Rios isn't fast or a great technician by any means but in comparison to Alvarado he's a speed demon with the technical knowhow of Mayweather. Rios is just a better more well rounded fighter and he's also tough as **** so although I feel Alvarado might be slightly tougher it's not enough to trump Rios tougness coupled with his far better skillset.

To me, Rios is the younger, fresher and more relentless brawler who should be feeling stronger at 140. But more importantly, he appears to absorb punishment better. This'll be a war of attrition, and so who can handle more is gonna' be of great importance. Alvarado, unfortunately, bruises and busts up a bit too easily for my liking. Against someone like Rios who won't back off either, it could spell disaster.

But with that said, Alvarado's the one who's coming off two back-to-back impressive victories. Whereas Rios has those two somewhat disappointing fights with Murray and Abril - the second which he lost. So confidence and form wise, Alvarado's in a better position.

Key things I'll be looking out for, are:

    • How Rios is gonna' hand Alvarado's power early on. This is the hardest puncher he'd have ever faced.
    • How Alvarado's face will be looking by the 8th round or so, because that's where Rios tends to come on strong (if he remains unscathed by the early assault).

why are people picking alvardo? the experience gap will show up later in the fight and i see rios as the better, more skilled fighter. i see a late stoppage from rios.

Mainly because Rios, for the first time ever, will no longer be holding that much of a power and size advantage. Alvarado could potentially give him a taste of his own medicine.

But I personally think Rios will prevail.

Will Rios be sparring Maidana leading up to this fight? That would be some good practice.

Karma. Rios will get ko'd. Alvarado is hungry and nothing to lose.

The Prescott Alvarado faced was a real good version of Prescott probably at his best. Alvarado was taking a thrashing until he put together an all or nothing performance and won. Rios as far as I'm concerned not proven at 140 yet. They're pretty even.

Alvarado may have a better jab but i haven't seen him use it with much regularity. Hes very powerful and can wear down certain opponents but trust me, Rios will love a taller dude that is willing to give up his height in a shootout. Alvarado's height may actually be his downfall. Rios has probably the best inside game at 135/140 and will make Alvarado's body his second home. I just know that this will be an up close shootout (even if Mike TRIES to use movement early on, Rios will force him to fight) and i can't help but to see Brandon's shorter, accurate, more precised placed shots doing much more damage than the punches that Rios will see coming from Alvarado. I just see him as being the more comfortable of the two.

Alvarado all the way, although Rios may be a bit more skilled specially in the pocket. I think alvarado will be to tough and big for rios.

    Rios by stoppage

He was on a rampage going in to the Abril fight. Abril moved way more effectively and faster than Alvarado possibly could or will. Plus bodywork. Alvarado isn't lengthy or fast enough.
