I'm a rios Fan and have been for a while, Been watching him since his 1st fight, but he lost yesterday i was scoring the round and gave rios 4 rounds he was comming better in the later rounds, but Abril was fighting the right fight by keeping distance when he came close high guard(mayweather) block so he couldnt get him inside, It was a sluggish fight. Think rios HAS to step up to 140. He will feel better and tougher, he can eat what he wants and not watch his weight which is a big boost to anyone in boxing

I've been watching boxing since the late 90s...I'm black. I don't even like Rios. I think fans in general are influenced how a fight is called(Mayweather-Castillo 1 on HBO for example) I think Rios won, but it was a **** performance by him. If Abril had kept punching, he would have won, but he let Rios close the gap and didn't punch pack...rounds 7-11 were all clinches and Rios landed the work.

it doesnt matter if you are black, white or green.I dont care about race.
i had the volume down so no bad influenced.
watch it again and tell me if you dont see Abril combinations and Rios landing nowhere.Just do it, you will notice something different.Abril started rd 8 with beatiful combos, he'll clinch when Rios get too close but still keeping one hand up tp protect himself.

I can't say I'm a diehard Rios fan, but I've enjoyed watching his fights. Having said that, I didn't think it was a robbery.

Here's why I think Rios did enough to win:

    • Rios was trying to make the fight.

    • Rios was moving his hands and working. Sure he didn't land a lot of damaging and explosive punches, but he was working.

Here's why I think Abril did enough to lose the fight:

    • Sure he was moving and Rios had a hard time catching up to him, but it wasn't like he was throwing combinations a la Mayweather vs Corrales and just totally befuddling Rios.
    • He landed the occasional right hand and circled to his left or right or hugged/clinched. Was it a damaging blow? No. Did he ever hurt Rios? No. Was it a scoring blow? On some occasions it was. I thought Rios' hands were always up to either partially block the blow or make it ineffective punch.
    • He was hugging/clinching constantly on the inside, and that was his biggest mistake. While he was doing that, Rios was moving his free hand and throwing/working. Were they big effective punches? No. Were they hurting Abril? No. Were they scoring punches? Yes and No. Some were landing, and some were being blocked.

    • Abril KNEW he was fighting the name fighter on his home "turf". Why would he fight such a safety first and leave any doubt. I'm not saying he should have squared up and bombed away, but he should have used his speed to throw powerful combinations to the body and head and THEN use his lateral movement to turn Rios. What I saw was Abril being cautious, circle left/right, throw a right hand, back up circle left/right, or hug/clinch Rios. An occasional combination here or there, but nothing that was putting the hurt on Rios.
I just don't agree with many who claim that Rios was out-boxed. I hate it when people claim that a boxer is out-boxed just because he can't catch the runner. It's one thing to move and be effectively outscoring the other by throwing combinations (e.g. Mayweather vs Corrales or more recently Cotto vs Margarito II), and then there is the other one who is constantly moving, but only throwing an occasional right hand per round and other ineffective punches (e.g. Abril vs Rios).

Would I be upset if Abril had been given the decision? No, not at all. It was a close, ugly fight that I thought neither did enough to clearly win.

    O.k. I'm ready:

He stopped throwing combinations. I completely agree he was clearly winning the first half of the fight, but he stopped throwing punches. He stopped landing, and the vast majority of the 2nd half of the fight was fought in the clinch where Rios landed more.

You are a Cuban defending a Cuban yet no one has questioned your objectivity. That's childish and ignorant.

LMAO!! I guess your opinion is the golden standard here on ESB and in the whole wide world. Anything else is bad, twisted, and unprofessional.

You asked, and I answered. You didn't agree with what I pointed out so you respond by spouting crap like this, "its your opinion, a really bad, twisted and unprofessional opinion but its yours." I pointed out why I don't think Abril won and you responded by, "its your opinion, a really bad, twisted and unprofessional opinion but its yours."

Instead of starting a thread and getting upset because someone doesn't agree with your golden opinion point out the rounds where Abril was so totally dominating Rios that Rios was wobbly, on the verge of going down, and was just outclassed.

Your just as biased as anyone else on this site. Just because you won't admit it doesn't pardon you from that sin.

Im cuban yes.But a cuban who recognizes casamayor lost to santa cruz and lara fought a horrible fight against molina( woudnt complain if lost instead of a draw),that Ugas looked like crap on his last fight. That gamboa's behaivor has been erratic and that cubans boxers in general have real issues with discipline and training.
You can question me whatever you want, my mortgage remains the same.

    1) you ARE a Rios dick rider
    2) you dont know **** about boxing..absolutely nothing...could not score a fight to save your life..and you have no idea what you are watching.
    3) to never read another opinion of yours ever again because you don't know **** about boxing.

So if I was you I wouldn't come back on here anymore :hi:
