Now why would Rios kill himself to make 135 when he can fight Maidana later this year? Even if Maidana gets outboxed by Alexander people would still love to see a war between Maidana and Rios. Rios can even take a stay busy fight just to test the water at 140.

Doesn't have to kill himself, just has to lose the weight the right way. You know, like with a nutritionist.

I'm not saying he doesn't have the ability to do it. It's just an unnecessary burden. Maidana-Rios is a better fight because there wouldn't be any excuses if Rios takes a tune-up at 140. If Rios beats Gamboa people will say the Cuban was too small. If Gamboa wins fans will say Rios was weight drained. This is all about Arum and in-housing which doesn't surprise me. It's a nice fight and probably the best in 2012 so far but could be better.

Agreed, Gamboa is already top 10 p4p IMO and aside from Mayweather the most skilled, dynamic fighter on earth, it's 2nd nature to the guy. Only problem is his chin is not Iron (not as weak as some think, he's only had flash KD's and got up immediately and some of those were due to being off balance while being too aggressive in his earlier days as a pro). If they were both comfortable at 135 I'd still pick Gamboa all day. Way too fast for Rios, he's going to overwhelm him, especially a weight drained Rios. One thing I'm not sure of about Gamboa that might spell disaster vs Rios is his ability to clinch when hurt, hopefully Steward is gonna help him with this, Tommy Hearns initially had troubles with clinching too but learned how to later in his career.

I love and hate this fight. Love it cause it's 2 of the brightest/most exciting young fighters in the sport duking it out. Hate it because I'm a big fan of both guys and because of the weight thing, Rios is clearly gonna be drained but it would be unfair to make Gamboa climb more than 2 divisions so the best and most fair thing they can do is 135 vs drained Rios. They'd almost be better to just fight in their own divisions.

A lot of potential future fights between faves of mine that I don't wanna see to have to root against someone.

Gamboa, Broner, Russell Jr, Donaire, Rigo...damn!! the lightweight division will be insane ina few years

Man, good fight! edit: GREAT FIGHT!!!

    Look at Gamboas opponents records...wow

Well based on faced opposition Gamboa should take it

Rios will come in @ about 155 while Gamboa will probably be around 145

Gamboa gonna have to box like crazy while Rios is gonna have to make it a dog fight and try to get on the inside.

If it goes all 12 it will be Gamboa. Rios only chance is by KO. Lets hope Steward can keep Gamboa disciplined and from getting to flashy.

    Gamboa UD or Rios KO
