I think it's that he really doesn't know how to trap his opponent, and when he does trap him, he(rios) doesen't know what to do but just wail at him..
Yeah I was really skeptical about Rios going into this even picking Acosta to win, but after last night I'm a believer. I think Vincente Escobedo might be a good development fight to further hone his defense before he steps in with a guy like JMM.
Rios vs Acosta reminds me of Corrales vs Frietas fight if you all think about it. Freitas was beating Corrales easily in the first 5 rounds with stick and move and was landing some power punches but Corrales still kept coming and in the late rounds when Freitas was tiring Corrales fought back and in the end tko Freitas.
For round 10 of a pretty grueling battle, Rios's punches had alot on them. Good stamina and good late power.
Yea the guy is definitely a true fighter, and the type of guy to draw new fans in.. We need these guys out there.. Sure he's beatable, but he's showed us that he is willing to do whatever it takes to stay in the fight and try and win. And he'd still be willing and able to grind out wins against all the dogs at 140 and 135.
Good Post!!! Man, I was really impressed with that fight last night. Acosta was ranking up points on the score cards, but Rios is just so damn determined & when he lets his hands go, the punches pack a wallop. And he did demonstarte a solid chin. You could see Acosta's shots were losing their steam & thats when Rios cornered him & finished him. Reminded me of when Pavlik won the title, taking out Taylor in the corner. I know Rios has acted immature with those Freddie Roach statements, but it looks like he's gonna be on his best behavior now. Can't blame the guy for screamimg like a girl. Hell, the guy just achived a life-long dream. I like him, hope he keeps his mouth shut & keeps walking down opponents with relentless pressure.
