    Cute..

Well let me kick this to you. Who brings out the best in slick fighters?

No matter who you look at, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Sweet Pea. Doesn't matter, it took guys like Jake LaMotta, Marvin Hagler, and J.C. Chavez to bring the best out of said legends.

Sure, LaMotta, Hagler, Chavez and Rios all had different levels of boxing skill, but what brings the best out of slick boxers, and the best test of a real boxer is a tough brawler, or boxer puncher with heart.

We do need to just sit back and appreciate Rios for what he is. He's never going to be anything other than himself, and we should relish in that about him and love him for it. He himself thought the reason he was going to beat Alvarado was because Alvarado isn't a, "great" boxer. It shows that it takes great boxing to beat a guy like Rios. This is what makes great boxing..

If we are a little wiser we will recognize it and appreciate him for what he is. He's heart and balls incarnate. If you cant appreciate that because he's not a great boxer, then you are missing half the story of one of the most storied romantic sports in the world.

Margarito was a 3 time champion... So if Rios is a Margarito 2.0! I got news for you that's not bad.. Dude just made 1.25 million for the fight on Saturday. Not bad for 36 minutes of work!

My issue was not Rios general behaviour as it was pretty funny but it was the part when he implied they "gave Alvarado" this one so they can make a 3rd fight

Nothing wrong with the rest but admit defeat, Rios looked lost in the last 5 rounds, not quite sure why he thinks he won

He's a warrior who is great to watch but I called Alvarado winning because I think he has more in his arsenal, he looked better in the first fight also but engaged too much which suited Rios

It's best not to try and reason with the General Forum, Flatlander.

Rios has been a world champion. He really doesn't need you or anyone else defending him against an onslaught of keyboard warriors who work 9 till 5.

    Keep enjoying the show.

    This.

Rios is actually bad for the sport of boxing. He creates slugfests, not boxing matches. A lot of "casual fans" think Rocky vs Apollo is how real fights are, and they rant about how dangerous & disgusting boxing is. Is they then tune in to Rios-Alvarado, they aren't suddenly going to be swayed.

heck, I love the sport, but found both of their fights kind of boring. Kinda' nice to see Alvardo's new footwork in II, but it was still basically Rock'em Sock'em robots.

Lol I don't get the 9-5 insult, might be missing something. Is there a some scientific proof out here that your job hours and your boxing knowledge are genetically linked?

Boxing knowledge? I suggest you read all three pages of this thread and tell me at what point any Boxing knowledge was on display.

Rios is apparently bad for the sport of Boxing because he creates slugfests? That would mean Aturo Gatti and Jack Dempsey were also bad for the sport of Boxing.

Rios is a walking punch bag? This was the first loss of his professional career, which tends to indicate that at some point in time he threw, and successfully landed, a punch.

Failing to appreciate what Brandon Rios has achieved so far in his career isn't Boxing knowledge, it's ignorance.

Abril must have been sitting at home thinking "You have the nerve to complain about this decision?" Don't like Rios as a man but more importantly don't rate him as a fighter. He's destined to catch a real bad beating at some point.

Do you remember I told you no long ago the formula to beat Rios was a decent fighter with stamina?
Alvarado isn't a great technician but everything he had to do was to move a bit more and don't be stationary in front of Rios. And it worked.
Rios is a warrior and I praise his heart, his chin and his toughness. But his vulnerability has been exposed already. Is it easy to beat Rios? No,of course no.

He's clearly the worst of all the fighters you just listed.

That might have something to do with it.

Ward was a significantly better fighter than Rios? You did say "clearly".

Sorry, I cannot agree with that. Besides, the quality of the fighters is not the point.

Ward was losing 3-4 fights on the bounce long before he even got to a world title. And now you're condemning Rios to mediocrity based on a loss to a fighter he stopped first time out. It just doesn't add up.

rios is very one dimensional. an very limited. he can only pull one tool out of the tool box. an alvarado cant pull out much more. alvarado is a slugger too just not as much of a relentless stalker as rios. but alvarado boxing skills arent all that good but he was good enough to box an buy him sum time then slug it out an win exchanges.

in a weird way this reminded me a little tiny bit of pac vs jmm. alvarado was jmm . the fight strategy was kinda the same but pac and jmm , those guys just were doin it all in there but once alvarado finally had an answer for rios rushin him it was kinda the same way jmm figured pac in there past 2 fights. but jmm never moved side to side like alvarado. which that side to side **** doesnt do nothin but by a little time for u but tires u out an u can get clipped doin it as well
