He explains how he had to had to lose weight before the Bradley fight. Crazy stuff. This content is protected
if this is 100% true its ****ing shocking! how this guy didn't begin training camps earlier defies common sense? surely he's had more then enough fights for him and his team (ex team now I suppose) to work out where they're going wrong each time? and if not that then stop munching mcdonalds every night!!! I really like Rios and I want him to continue fighting but constantly ****ing your body up losing nearly 40lbs then trying to get in to a fire fight each time is a guaranteed way to get brain damage! A fully prepared Rios at 147 can still give the top guys trouble, he may not win a title ever again but I would still watch him. Still patiently waiting and praying for the provo fight to get made.......sigh
His weight was always a problem , missing or cutting to much weight. He hangs around at a weight to long instead of moving up
His case represents what's wrong with the sport. Very, very little time spent honing skill, most time spent on weight cutting. Rios coming in at 170lbs for a WW bout should emphasise just how much he used to weigh before cutting in the first place.
rios weighed 175 for the bradley fight.......should he be considered for golovkin since his fightnight weight is golovkins zone?
By his body it's pretty apparent that if he got his fitness together he should be able to comfortably make ww. Sure he could beat Ortiz or Guerrero at this stage of their careers, but against top 15 welterweights he wouldn't have a chance. He's irrelevant.
Horrible situation...so much ignorance. To not eat for many days and to go without proper hydration for probably 2-3 days (you can see even in the week build up they arn't hydrating properly) then to try and dehydrate yourself in the final day using A SAUNA & other methods where your body can no longer regulate itself properly. It's not like he's just sitting around dehudrated...he is exercising whilst unable to sweat What if his heart stopped in that hotel room? you think they'd know how to resusitate him? I doubt it. idiots. 20-25 pounds...
Simply not true and you know this. The most accomplished fighter of the past 15 years walked around at 5lbs over his fighting weight.
yeah this is another one that needs to happen before they both hang em up as would be competitive while it lasts! Vic may be mentally flawed but he is still very skilled and can pop, think Rios gets him eventually however as that guy is one tough sob!
I have known Brandon and his family for several years. Brandon is a very loyal and sensitive man. He has a lot of pride and he hates to lose. We have had a two boxers other than Brandon who have left our gym and gone to Robert Garcia's gym. One had good success but finally left because of lack of training and because Garcia was more concerned about filling vacant weight classes than he was about training technique. We had one boxer who was 5'11" and 155. The boxer was very lean at that weight and had been a very successful amateur. Brandon had moved up from 135 to 147 so Garcia needed a 135. So he said he would lake our boxer on if he went down to 135. This would have been impossible for the boxer. He would have spent more time training to lose weight than he would have spent training to win fights. Brandon never should have defended his lightweight title against Abril at 135. He was a dead man walking in that fight. Brandon has not been able to easily make anything under 145 for many years. He has had to starve on dehydrate to dangerous levels to do so. Brandon has not been the same since he lost his lightweight title and the Abril fight. Those two events broke his spirit. He was too loyal and prideful to leave Garcia back when he really should have. Some people think because Brandon had made good money that he had became comfortable and had lost his desire to fight. Some think he now fights only for the money. They only think that because they don't know Brandon. Brandon's money and toys mean less to him than do the trophies, medals and memories of his youth and amateur career. His wife and his kids are his life. He decided to fight on because his pride will not allow him to go out like this. Top Rank treated him like an opponent and not a champion. Let's hope his next promoters behave differently. There are some really great match ups and fights out there for Brandon. There are some potential fights of the year match ups. Every fight I have seen Brandon in except for Bradley kept me on the edge of my seat. I was at the Bradley fight and me and Brandon's former amateur coach both knew Brandon was not himself as soon as he stepped into the ring. Brandon is a very funny and talented man. No matter what he does he will be a success.
I d like to see him call it a day. Hes definetely a warrior. Never been the clearest talker from the start but not sure if its just me but he seems to be slurring his words struggling with his talking a lot more nowadays. Maybe the weight cuttings played a part but defo think the sports slowly starting to damage him. Still a young man but these things tend to get worse with age. Bearing in mind how hes cut weight etc...and the level hes fought at and plans to fight at to me hes a prime candidate for getting hurt. Hes made good money time yo think about getting out the sport. His styles pretty much a young guys game anyway.
A few months ago at the Kansas/Oklahoma Golden Gloves in Wichita, Kansas we got to spend part of the day with Brandon and his parents. We talked at length and not a single time did Brandon slur or stammer when speaking. Then as soon as the cameras and microphones came out he studdered and stammered and seemed to be searching for his next word. I think most of what is seen as slurring and stammering is just one camera nerves. If you think Brandon is hyper and and hard to follow when he talks you should hear his brother Antonio. I love Tony but he is a talking machine and hard to keep up with.
