    definite FotY in my book...
wish the ref let Antillon survive a bit longer before waving him off... he might have pulled out of that tough situation

As a commentator had said, "Fights like these are going to save the sport of boxing"

Forget the running-ass bitches doing their hit'n'run, then clinch ****. Both serious & casual boxing fans can appreciate men who trusts their chins and stay in the pocket....

    Berto/Ortiz is another top contender.

I vote for Arce being the Fighter of the Year :p
    GUSTO!!!

At this point for me its either Berto-Ortiz or Arce-Ruiz.

The ref did the right thing stopping the fight when he did. Antillon had lost his legs.

Some fights get hurt from going too long. Ortiz Berto is one of them. Had that been a 7 round fight, hell yeah, FotY.

Some get hurt for being too short, like Rios-Antillon..

    ...:bart

    Actually, OK. I was wrong.

It was a good fight. (even though it lacked drama for me, not really caring about the outcome or either participant...although it definitely pleased me to see Ortiz win rather than Berto, and it has led to a somewhat interesting match-up for Mayweather...)

It is definitely top 10-15 FOTY material. I'd say very close to and debatably in the top 5.

For me, there was far more excitement provided by:

    Chris John vs. Daud Yordan
    Roman Gonzalez vs. Manuel Vargas
Hernan Marquez vs. Bernabe Concepcion (overrated?? :blood Regardless of the round breakdown, both guys were in clear and present danger all night)
    Brandon Rios vs. Miguel Acosta

...and it doesn't have any strong argument at all to be head and shoulder above the likes of:
    Teon Kennedy vs. Jorge Diaz
    Choi Tseveenpurev vs. Jackson Asiku
    Gennady Golovkin vs. Kassim Ouma
Jorge Arce vs. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
    Marcos Maidana vs. Erik Morales
Orlando Salido vs. Juan Manuel Lopez
    Mauricio Herrera vs. Ruslan Provodnikov
    Andy Lee vs. Craig McEwan

Ortiz vs. Berto was a very good fight (on that point, I concede having been wrong), but it wasn't great and wasn't even close to the very best in what has been an amazing year.

The highest it can rate is #5.

I can see arguments for putting it just above anything on that second list (but very narrowly, if so) - but no way in hell was it better than anything on the first list, in bold. Those four were the types of war that can create new boxing fans on the spot. Ortiz vs. Berto was only like that for about half of its length (and even the best moments in it didn't shine as brightly as any given moment in those four).

Antillon landed some uppercuts on Rios that would have about 99% of lightweights KTFO and needing medical attention.

Rounds 1 & 2 were not one-sided at all (though I did see them both as clearly 10-9 to Rios...but clearly does not mean one-sidedly)
