IMO a good stoppage but a strange one by American boxing standards. That stoppage in Europe wouldn't have raised an eyebrow
great stoppage. rios best course of action would be a rematch. his stock goes way down if messes with the top tier at 140 as he likely loses but by rematching alvarado he'll have another foty and be on his way to a being called the most exciting fighter in the sport along with leaving a legacy of fights with a foe who has a great style match up ala gatti vs ward
Ironic thing is that Alvarado's bravery probably lost him the fight. He wasnt able to defend himself convincingly yet he refused to go down. Had he taken a knee or even hit he canvass he may well have recovered during the count.
Nobody seen Mike Alvarado protesting. His body language (the look on his face when he spoke to Kellerman after the fight) shows he knows it was over.
His hands weren't down at the time of the stoppage, but he clearly wasn't intelligently defending himself. He was eating bomb after bomb and in all likelihood would have continued to do so until he hit the canvas had the ref not stepped in. Good stoppage IMO. I find it hilariously ironic that a Calslappy stan would classify this as an "awful stoppage". You wanna see some awful stoppages? Look no further than this Calslappy "highlight" video. :yep [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACgTJhEdj5M[/ame]
