Maybe a punch or two too soon, but definitely not a bad stoppage. The man was badly hurt. He should have taken a knee.
Given how much each guy was bashing each other all fight, way early stoppage. Alvarado deserved a bit longer to recover
Exactly right. However......his head wasnt right and was scrambled from the punishment he had absorbed over the course of the fight. He couldn't make the appropriate decison because his he was almost completely out on his feet.
Good stoppage, Alvarado didn't know where he was at and most important, he didn't know where Rios was at. Prolonging the fight would have resulted in some free brutal shots for Rios and I think Alvarado deserves better.:bbb
The stoppage was right on but this was a fight in which I wished the standing 8 count had been in effect.
I feel it was pre planned too. Most fights I would say this stoppage is alright but not this fight with both fighters showing amazing powers to recoup. That quote too by the ref about taking them to the deep end and not letting them drown, seemed a little prepared. No way would a guy like Smoger stop it at that point. If a fighter like Alvarado works his butt off you need to give him a little bit more benefit of doubt when it comes to taking punishment. Leave it up to his corner which knows him better, unless he's getting knocked down over and over again. Just goes to show you, great fights need great refs.
Oh STFU! A pre-planned stoppage is Alvarez-Gomez, when Canelo hurts Alfonso, lands two more solid punches, and the fight was stopped. THAT was pre-planned. Alvarado was out on his feet, and the ref used his best judgement and saved Mike from being brutally KO'd.
Not the worst stoppage; since Alavarado had absorbed several huge shots without firing back. The only issue is that the two hooks that landed just before the stoppage appeared to be of the cuffing variety, and weren't particularly flush. Ideally, imo, I would like to have seen a situarion where Mike was allowed to continue a few more seconds, to see if he was capable of defending against any further clean shots; and a stoppage if Mike was forced to absorb another flush punch. As it stands, the fact that it was stopped at that point creates the impression in my mind that the ending was a just a bit premature. But I've certainly seen far worse stoppages.
