I know this is a passionate subject for many here but I wanted to give the subject another look. Hindsight is 20/20. At the end of the fight, I and all those watching the fight felt that Rios had lost. Over 100 people felt Rios had lost the fight. All but one person, Rios' sister that is. Blood is thicker than water so we will give her that. The odd thing is that most there also felt that Abril fought an ugly, safe and boring fight. Rios looked sluggish and quite frankly he looked to be totally out of this fight mentally. The commentators had said in the Keys To Success portion of the pre-fight hype that the main thing Rios needed to do was to CONTROL HIS ANGER. That is what was missing in this fight, RIOS' RAGE. I think it was a mistake not to have the fighters meet face to face at the presser and the weigh in. Rios needs that to come in aggressive in a fight. It was not so much that those that watched the fight with me thought Abril won as it was that Rios did not fight like he usually did and gave the fight away. Rios also needs to be hit and somewhat hurt to get into a fight. Abril was unable to hurt Rios in anyway. The most damaging punch that Abril landed against Rios was a low blow. I still feel that Rios lost this fight but I now see that the 9 round to 3 win for Abril I had after the fight was wrong. I now see this fight as a very close fight. Not a robbery as I once thought. Rios lost this fight, he gave it away but I have no desire to see Abril fight again. I will watch Rios shadow box for 12 rounds first.
Seriously though Rios lost. Those excuse you are making aren't convincingy anyone that rios would do better in a re-match. Marquez and Guerreo SCHOOL and probably knock Rios out.
Did you even read what I posted. I sais Rios IMO lost. I never said anything about a rematch. Although since you brought it up. If the rematch was at 140 I think Rios would stop Abril. It would not surprise me if at one point Rios will call Abril out for a rematch. He is like that.
Yes, I know the entire Rios family. Brandon's brother Antonio and his father Manuel are close friends of mine. Brandon started as a 7 year old kid at our gym. Him and Ortiz both started there.
You have to take human nature in to consideration. You are attached to Rios...You have seen him since he was a 7 year old lil boy. When you rewatch it...some things will seem odd to you.
You have good points but the main reason why Rios was not agressive enough was because he had a true boxer in front of him, can't you see that? While Abril may be " boring " to you his style is very successful to the desired result which is = winning. The Cubans are tought that the most important thing in a boxing match is " winning " and not looking great. And do you think the Cuban coaches are right or wrong about that? Boxing is about winning and hit and don't get hit and I don't care what others think about this. The american public are used to seeing " fights " and when someone chooses to box perfectly then they don't like it and say it's boring. Well, that's the sport of boxing right there, it's called boxing and not fighting! Rios was nullified by Abril's tactics and by seeing that Abril was not scared at all. Abril was never afraid of Rios in anyway as he showed in their press conferences. Rios had never met anyone that did that to him, he even said it that he was " fired up " and wanted to punish Abril for touching his face. Rios' anger was still there but it was frozen when he saw that Abril was not from " the dumpsters " like he called him and couldn't touch him all while eating leather in return. It's simple mathematics, the boxer 99% of all times beats the fighter. It's not different here! :good
Tell Rios to not even trip. Tell him Abril didn't show up to fight, he only showed up to hug and grab Rios' arm all day. He has a new fan after that fight.
How could you be a fan with Rios after he got beat? You really need to learn something about boxing. What an idiot.
