Sadly, that's true, but the reason that Abril will not get another payday is because no other fighter will want to be made to look so ordinary against him.
If I cared enough to educate you I could edit out a few clips of Rios landing on Abril's chin as he held.
You guys don't wanna face the facts here. Professional boxing is about the entertainment value of the show. It isn't about throwing out boxing skills, it is about being willing to fight. You don't throw punches then find another sport.
Abril was throwing punches and (this is the most important part) he was landing. The remark about boxing being about the entertainment value of the show sounds like something a fan of pro wrestling would say.
But, now we get circular. He didn't do his share of initiating by trying to make openings. If Bam Bam had never thrown a punch then he Abril wouldn't have. He just waited for openings. But, this is getting circular. I explained why I believe the judges rewarded Rios for his efforts and not Abril. Rios tried to make the fight and Abril blatantly fouled to keep him from doing it. Really this score should have not been that big a shock.
Having skills in the clinch has always been a part of the sport and is not fouling. I usually like your posts because you remain a loyal Pavlik fan, as I do; but, you are now sounding like YDKSAB.
Good post! Boxing experts trying to say that fans that want to see speed, athleticism, power and the will to win are not real fans? This isn't self defence. This is supposedly two highly skilled boxers pitted against one another to see who is the best in the world in the discipline of punching. Does defence have to be thrown out the window to accomplish this? No. Just look up Mayweather. Is he strictly a counter puncher that follows the other guys lead? No.
You dont get fact that judges should score on boxing not entertainment(unless if they are corrupt), they are boxing judges not X factor or some other tv show atsch These robberies is whats wrong with boxing and you try to "explain" how thats good.:scaredas:
Clinch is one thing, but Abril purposely hooked the arm over and over and over. Yes clinching is part of boxing. I heard Steve Smoger say part of his instructions to the fighter in the dressing room is that if the get hurt but they can defend themselves or try and tie up, he will not call the fight. This was something else entirely and, in my personal opinion, the two judges that scored Abril lower because of it were certainly justified in doing so. I don't see the fight as a robbery and that is the only point I am trying to make.
If you think professional boxing can survive as pure sport you are truly naive. Are you saying Abril's incessant hooking is within the rules of boxing? I'm not talking about one ref's interpretation and enforcement. If it is allowed why did he twice warn Abril? Yet still let him do it? Why?
