 Where do you buy your crack? Did you actually see the fight? Rios has never about quit in any fight. Acosta landed some punches but Rios walk right through them.

It would take lower comprehension skills than those possessed by a three year old to not realize how COMPLETELY different a fighter Miguel Acosta was on those two different nights.

The Acosta of the Abril fight couldn't even stand up straight under his own powers (even when Abril wasn't hitting him). I've literally never seen a boxer slip, stumble, and fall that much on his own accord. His balance, his timing, his punch resistance - were all FRACTIONS of what they'd been earlier in his career.

I'm not trying to necessarily big up Rios or spin a legend that he specifically single-handedly ruined Acosta...but by the time he met Abril, whether it was from the Rios fight or just damage taken throughout his career until then - Acosta WAS ruined. He was not even close to world class that night, he wasn't even tomato can class. It was an ugly, sloppy, horrible fight to watch and Abril didn't display any outstanding technical boxing by any stretch of the imagination - he just outfought a guy who looked like he was drunk and didn't belong in a boxing ring.

I disagree. Rios didn't do anything to leave Acosta damaged goods. All Rios did was take a schooling from the beginning all the way until he gave Acosta his second knockdown and even then Acosta was still winning on the scorecards. It's not like Acosta has 50+ pro fights engaged in wars to be left punch drunk. He was his usual self against Abril, it was Abril who made him look silly.

This is exactly my statement that if Abril was able to beat Acosta easier than Rios that that shows that he is a much better boxer than what most people think. Rios can easily be outboxed and if Abril chooses to box him smartly he can very well get the win but he has to stop Rios or at least give him a couple of knockdowns cause there's no way that the judges will give him the decision! ;)

Jesus ****ing Christ, no, you can't possibly have seen the fight and believe that. :patsch

He isn't that great a boxer. He beat a COMPLETELY different Acosta. He hardly "outboxed" him, he basically just outfought him in a rough, ugly fight where Acosta was a complete spaz and by no means his normal self (slipping to the canvas, clinching like crazy, whining about fouls - some real, some imaginary). Abril was the better man by far on the night, yes - but vintage Acosta would have made mincemeat of him.

It looked like a sober guy with little to no formal pugilistic beating up on a shitfaced drunk guy, not some master boxer outclassing an elite former champ.

You don't need to have all that many miles on the odometer to be washed up. Some people just have less in the tank than others. Obviously Acosta maxed out by the time he turned 33. He looked nothing like his old self, and no you can't just go handing out credit for that to Abril.

Hey - remember when that master boxer Jorge Castro outboxed Roberto Duran? That was totally the same Duran who beat SRL. Nothing wrong with that Duran at all. Castro OUTBOXED him, man. yeah! :p

I am beginning to think some people posting opinions in this tread never actually saw the Rios vs Acosta bout. Rios took 4 rounds to figure Acosta's style out and then systematically broke him down and stopped him.

I'm even more convinced that most people didn't see Abril vs. Acosta, or only saw highlights of it.

It wasn't Acosta looking his usual self and Abril looking better.

It was Abril looking his usual C+/B-level self and Acosta looking ****ing

I do not believe Rios was about to quit at any point in the fight but the kid did get shook. He wasn't just walking through Acosta's shots, thats a gross exaggeration. Acosta was rocking him, then got caught and couldn't recover like Rios was able to after taking some heavy shots from Acosta.

I can understand how some can look at Abrils dominante performance against Acosta and feel confident that Abrils boxing skills can beat Rios. But lets take it with a grain of salt, Acosta doesn't bring the same power or pressure that Rios comes at you with. More importantly, Acosta doesn't have a chin to be compared to Rios. Acosta was still mentally shook up about what happened to him against Rios and didn't react well to Abril's shots at all.

I'll be honest with you I'm no fan of Rios, if find him annoying and irritating. But I try not to be biased and trash him in every situation. I would like for someone to humble Bam Bam, but I don't think Abril has what it takes. As much as I dislike Rios I do have to point out his strengths. And it's going to take a well rounded fighter who not only can punch, but be able to take a good shot to beat Rios.:good

He didn't beat Acosta with boxing skills! :-( Where is this misconception coming from?

It was barely even a boxing match. It was an ugly, messy, fight. Not even a good action fight, just a complete mess. The crowd was booing throughout. Both guys took turns being very negative, very clinchy. Both threw lots of rabbit punches.

Abril was the stronger, more durable guy on the night. Acosta was a complete *****. That's why Abril won.

"Boxing skill" didn't even enter the equation, for either man.

 It was a very messy fight, getting all wrapped up in the ropes and stuff, Abril did handle him and had his way though.

I thought Abril demonstrated the better skills in those moments when they did stand and trade instead of clinching. His balance was better, and just looked to have the better hands.

You are right though both fights were very different and can not be campared for hints of who did better. To me Acosta didn't look right mentaly, hence all the holding and messy fighting. I do see your point IB :good

Rios admitted that Acosta did catch him early and hurt him at one point but at no time was Rios in jeopardy of being stopped. All it did was make him more determined.
