Rios being the bigger, younger and the stronger fighter will eat Gamboa for sure. I just hope we are not about to see Arum's another nuts matchmaking of a Pac - Margo like fight. This is not a good idea for Gamboa who needs to feel the weight and pick an easy opponent first before facing a Rios. If Rios would come down to Gamboa's lair maybe Yuriorkis has everything to win.

Alright first of all let's throw into the mix one VERY VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR.
****Rios has hired a nutritionist for the first time in his career*****

Obviously this is going to help him make the weight more comfortably.
So when you look at the factors this is what you get:

    Height
    Rios - 5'8" Gamboa - 5'5"
    Reach
    Rios - 68" Gamboa - 65"
    Power
    Rios has the edge
    Chin
    Rios has the edge
    Speed
    Gamboa has the edge
    Footwork
    Gamboa has the edge
    Defense
Close but I give it to Gamboa

One important tool that I see it being Brandons best tool is his jab. Dude probably has one of the most powerful jabs in the business. It tends to land like a power punch. No idea why Robert does not have him use it more but it will be key in this fight since heis much bigger and he will be fighting a much faster mobile fighter. With that jab though he can prevent him from getting inside and set him up for his powerful combos.

I honestly do not see why Arum made this fight unless Gamboa was planning on leaving him. People pointing to the Acosta fight are forgetting Acosta has a big big punch and is also very tall and lanky. I do not see Gamboa even having the same success as Acosta.

I would really like to see Broner-Gamboa though. Now that one should be good and I will be rooting for Gamboa to destroy Broner!!!

I'm going with Gamboa, who'll prove he's one of the very best fighters in the world.

Afterwards, Rios will complain about being weight-drained and say he should've been at 140 for the last 18 months.

I don't think Acosta belongs in the same class as Gamboa ,I still have everybody doubts about this fight, but Gamboa is used to fight taller opponents like solis,Ramirez ,Jimenez only no with same power, chin and relenteness as Rios.
I can tell you this fight is an example of undefeated boxers declining being protected and stepping up for the show.
Take note those hiding under the skirt of their promoters to protect their 0 defeats

    Word.

Gamboa just got my respect with this fight. It is going to be a huge upset IMO if he pulls it off.

I know you love your Cuban fighters so how do you see this one going?
Like you said Gamboa has fought tall fighters but not with those attributes that Rios has.

i do love and support them but trying always being realistic.
I still don't understand Gamboa going to 135 after Rios who is despite all his flaws a beast in the ring.It makes more sense stop at 130 and beat someone like Broner. Also being his first time with Steward i think increases the risk since we don't know the chemistry between them yet.
If he beats Rios his stocks will go up at PPV level and i can see a showdown with Marquez and i believe that's what Oner is betting for.Top Rank is just sacrificing one of them but hoping Rios win since the mexicans draw more tickets for the show.
It also depends how competitive the fight is, in a a war with a close decision Gamboa will get more credit even if he looses because he is the little man.If he gets KO in early rds its gonna hurt his future. If Rios dispose of Gamboa early in the fight will be highly praised but if gets outboxed or late KO will be in trouble for next fights.
Question is: how will Gamboa carry his power and speed?, how will Rios stay healthy for the fight?..if they are both 100% i will slightly favor Rios because of his size, chin and power. But whoever isn't 100% will be the loser.
i'll be of course rooting for Gamboa.

gamboa wins by decison , rios's style wont give gamboa probs it actually playis into it 4 me , but i reckon Gamboa's style gives rios kittens.. Gamboa will win with his obv fast hands but more importantly fast feet . ( hit and move )if he gets drawn into a slugfest then it might b a diff story but i think Gamboa is to clever for that :bbb

    50/50? Don't think so! :nono

People are just so into Rios' size, power and bad reputation that they haven't looked at some of his weakpoints. Out of Rios' 29 fights only his last 3-4 bouts were against pretty good opposition. His first 25 fights were against horrible competition! Yes he is taller , heavier and bigger than Gamboa but so what? The Cubans are very used to sparring taller and heavier guys back in the Cuban schools and this is nothing new to Gamboa.

Just look at Rigondeaux, he was sparring Cuban welterweight Ugas who is about 5'10 and 145 pounds! If Rios doesn't come in 100% ready in terms of weight nutrition he is going to be easily stopped or schooled by the speed and athleticism that Gamboa brings. If he comes 100% ready ( which is very doubtful considering all his past weight issues ) he is still going to have an extremely difficult time trying for Gamboa to engage and hit him cleanly.

I see this fight unfolding very similar to when Gamboa defeated Salido, Solis and Ponce de Leon in where he used lateral movements, insane speed, pure athleticism and constant counterpunching to drive them crazy. Gamboa is possibly the smartest boxer today ( said by many boxing experts and trainers ) as he does whatever he wants inside the Ring. Boxing is about intelligence and pure skills not about power nor bullying around opponents.

Rios is going to be in for a long night trying to catch Gamboa and will constantly be eating leather in return. I got Gamboa by wide UD but it's very possible that Gamboa " lets the dogs out " and goes Hurricane on him like before and stops him on accumulation of punches.

As you can see, he is on my avatar as he is " The Cuban Bon Bon ". This was the special nickname given to Cuba's first professional Champion Kid Chocolate by the Cuban fans as he was " Cuba's finest ". Gamboa is going to carry this name from now on! Gamboa and Rigondeaux are by far the best Cuban pro fighters that have landed on US shores after the Castro era and will bring back Cuba's legacy into professional boxing just like before Castro.

    Gamboa UD or late TKO.

Who's next after Rios ??? :hey

very intriguing fight. giving all the factors with rios weight ,gamboa moving up in class, styles, its hard to come up with an outcome. like someone said rios can just walk through gamboa early and stop him or gamboa can use his speed and movement all night and outclass rios all night. or we can have a very competitive fight. who knows.
