RIP Alan Rudkin - Remembrence thread

I remember becoming intrested Alan Rudkin and looking him up when i first came on this site after Al francis telling me about about his father. He seemed to be a one tough warrior.

I can't think what to say........

The pit of my stomach dropped when I clicked on to the forum and saw this. Hopefully Al (Francis) and all his nearest and dearest are holding up ok.

An outstanding fighter in an astonishingly deep and talented era who more than held his own with the best of the best as well being a much respected patron of his home city.

R.I.P old son.

If Australia ever adopted one as their own, it was this man.

On the night Alan Rudkin was inched out of claiming the World bantamweight Tile from defending champ, Lionel Rose, Australia found a heroic figure. The tenacity of Alan, such fighting spirit, fine athleticism and gentlemanly attributes were to infect fans as a whole.

3,000,000 Australians were tuned in to that fight. A population of 12 million.. I guess the rest hadn't purchased a TV at that stage. That fight was the biggest night in Australian boxing history. 15,000 paying customers, one Aboriginal, one Liverpudlian; one genuine WORLD TITLE!!!!!!

As an Aussie, I feel proud that Alan Rudkin was to share the glory of that night. He fought, as always, with every ounce of his heart. A proud man he was. Humble, peaceful and warm hearted. A mirror of Lionel Rose. Hence the life long bond they shared.

The deeds of Rudkins fighting career are testimony to the sheer courage exposed as a child. The doctors said Alan would never be able to play like a normal boy... How wrong they were.

Sympathies to the Rudkin family.

What can I say! Thank you eveybody for your kind words, private messages and support at this difficult time. We're all in shock here but your words have touched me. Thank you once again from the Rudkin family.

RIP to someone who was not only a wonderful boxer (and one who might well have held championships for a while in other eras), but to someone who was by all accouts an even better person.

i know alan senior involved alfrancis in his boxing career and took al and his brother round to all the boxing gyms.what a great bloke.

 

RIP Alan was only watching the fights on youtube last weekend, bending the wifes ear on how good youtube is after all, what an era, what a boxer.
