Another one whose death slipped through our fingers, died back in April!

    https://wbcboxing.com/en/tribute-to-the-great-antonio-avelar/

A great little Mexican puncher, with 32 of 39 wins by knockout and an exciting fighter who was either knock out or get knocked out!

I had the honor of (accidentally you can say) seeing him fight in person when he had his only Puerto Rico outing, being stopped in five rounds by Fred Jackson at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan as part of the Rosario-Ramirez I bout. I was there to see the main event basically but was happy that I was going to also see Avelar, whom I knew by reading Ring Magazine in Spanish had been a world champion already.

Freddie Jackson..another whatever happened to him? A solid contender who dissapeared after losing in a world title try to Daniel Zaragoza in Aruba.

    Anyways, yeah, RIP Antonio Avelar!

Mini Julian Jackson, he had the sort of Little Redesque power where he only needed to partly land punches to get an opponent going. One of the great punchers at any weight imo.

    RIP.

Avelar was at the wrong end of one of the most spectacular one punch kos you'll ever witness against Prudencio Cardona.

Jackson was kod in two by Kelvin Seabrooks shortly after the Zaragoza loss

Jackson had a bad habit with low blows and was also DQd against Harold Petty.

You rarely see a fighter DQd for low blows.

Fierce puncher with a fearless style where he was there to kill or be killed. His fight with Wilfredo Vazquez is one of the best fights I've seen. And his fight with Tae Shik Kim was also an awesome short slugfest.

    RIP

Very true and in only two rounds of action!

According to Boxrec, Jackson lives in Houston these days.

    He was a favorite...

And you know what? At 115 pounds, with long hair which was stylish back in the day and in his early 20s when he became world champion,, he could have been a teen idol had he gone into acting instead. looking like Mexican teen idol Valentin Trujillo or like Alan Longmuir of the Bay City Rollers!
