This is a link to an interview with Carmen in 1957 after he won the title from Ray Robinson. I came across this a few months ago and kept the link as the way Carmen spoke always impressed me. Carmen speaks about many things including if boxing should be outlawed. Have a look: http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/multimedia/video/2008/wallace/basilio_carmen.html
Aww man can't believe this RIP Champ, one of the greatest and baddest mother****ers to ever step in the ring. He was the quintessential old school, hard as nails, take 3 to give 1 fighter. A REAL fighter.
He was very tough. A real goddamn son of a ***** for any WW-MW. Huge balls, huge heart... tough dude! RIP
He was asked at what point during the fight he felt confident that he was winning and he said : I felt it was going my way when the man said "the winner and new champion"... RIP Basilio ! :bbb
I just lost my home from Hurricane Sandy, now to hear of the passing of one of my era's greatest and TOUGHEST warrior's Carmine Basillio hurts me even more...No ONE EVER was tougher than Basillio...Rest in peace Carmine ...
How tough was Basilio...? So tough that it's easy to forget just how skilled he was inside the ring. And he was skilled...make no mistake. He put his punches together awfully well, was very good at cutting off the ring, and was extremely adept at finding ways to force opponents to fight his kind of fight. His skills made him tough to beat. But his toughness...his will...made him impossible to break, even when other fighters managed to gain victory over him. And there aren't too many fighters that are able to say that. RIP Carmen...I have a feeling it's gonna be a long, long time before we see the likes of you fighting inside the ring again.
