R.I.P. He brought Michael Nunn and Andre Ward to the brink of super stardom, and they both tried to dump him as they reached the peak. He was also great with the Ruelas brothers. He was one of the few promoters who knew how to properly guide fighters from the start of their careers, to a championship and beyond. In fact, he was so good at building them up that quite a few felt they were better than they were and started looking to dump him for greener pastures. I wouldn't be surprised if Ward suffers the same fate as Nunn.
He outlived his brother who died at 54. That leaves one lone Goosen brother and I wonder if he inherits Ward's contract or if Ward is now a free agent.
Since people keep bringing it up, heres Wards official response to Goosens passing. "I was deeply saddened to learn the news of Dan Goossen's passing early this morning. My thoughts and prayers have been with Dan and his family since I received the news of his illness last week. While Dan and I recently had our professional struggles, he was a great man, father and husband. He will be greatly missed by the boxing community. I will continue to keep the Goossen family in my prayers."
RIP Dan. Statement by Ward: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10153170347075830&id=127174575829
