Rest in peace, champ, and thank you for all the legendary fights. Dwight Muhammad Qawi was a very special fighter and his passing is deeply saddening.

It's really astounding how such a small Light Heavyweight like Qawi was only 5'7 yet still showed to be a force of nature who was not only a punishing fighter but was surprisingly hard to hit clean as well. Not only that but he was also a great jabber and a really sneaky counterpuncher. What made Qawi so unique was the fact that he really used his short stature to his advantage and still brutalized his opponents.

He really was like Joe Frazier except with a better defense and boxing skills. A prime Qawi would have definitely given guys like Beterbiev, Bivol and Benavidez a very tough battle.

July is just taking souls. RIP champ, his bout with Holyfield is imo, the greatest fight ever!

I remember his fight with Holyfield like it was yesterday. My father, old school to the bone, loved Qawi, while I was cheering as hard as I possibly could for "Real Deal."

My Dad still believes Qawi got jobbed that night.

    RIP Qawi.

I always liked Matthew Saad, so I never took to Qawi. But he was a force for a short time. No doubt.
