Known for being a nice man outside the ring by a lot of accounts. Thanks for the memories Earnie and God be with you.

Super nice guy when I met him in Vegas. He gave us a lot of entertainment at his own expense.

    Rest in Peace.

RIP to the one guy that maybe hit harder than Foreman

if his conditioning/stamina was better he would have knocked out Holmes 100%

Wow. Another of the great era gone.

RIP, strong man. You will always be the standard for heavy hands.

R.I.P. to the power GOAT! You will certainly not be forgotten, particularly by those you punched.

Damn, only just read this here, on the forum. RIP Champ.

Until today, I liked holding the fact that we still had Holmes, Foreman and Shavers still with us - living legends.

Without any reason to think it would/could happen I held hope to meet at least one of these guys one day in person.

I don’t idolise anyone per se, but some of the elite names in boxing come close - meaning, if the opportunity ever arose I would’ve gone well out of my way and paid good $$$ to meet them to obtain a photo, signed souvenir etc.

Besides his god given punch Shavers displayed a lot of moxie thru out his career.

Per photos, Shavers did have huge fists - but also a nice cerated edge provided by protruding knuckles.

Love the stories, particularly the Jeff Sims anecdote. Earnie might’ve got duped by Ali in round 2 of their fight but apparently he paid forward the same savvy to Sims. LOL.

Please keep ‘em coming - appropriately this thread is also a tribute to and celebration of Shavers.

    Thanks.

RIP Earnie. A fine fighter of the Golden Age of big men with a right hand that was a bazzooka. A really nice guy by all accounts too.

Very sad to hear this. He always seemed like a very kind and humble man. He was a definite badass inside the ring though.

A fantastic puncher and really entertaining fighter to watch. Well done on a life well lived Earnie. You’ve earned your rest.
