Just read over at Floyd Hype that Golden Boy COO Bruce Binkow has flown the coup. Word has it that Schaefer's former secretary has bounced also. There's about to be some sad singing and flower bringing...
reports from weeks back have predicted this. binkow was too close to schaeffer. it would have been awkward, maybe even risky, for oscar to keep him anyway.
If those were "Schaefer's guys", it's in Oscar's (and their own) best interests that they leave. It makes it easier to recruit a CEO if they can bring in their own team. Also, even if the old team was retained, they'd be on a short leash once the new CEO was brought in.
ya...this was basically known weeks ago he was bouncing... but fret not for golden boy....because if you ask anyone they can easily replace richard or anyone else over there....im sure its easy to find anyone with years of experience in the field of promoting/marketing big time fights....to just step right in and do the job....im sure someone will step right in these positions who are well liked by others in the community by the fighters and networks
Damn Only reason people tuned in to showtime boxing was because of Binkow. Expect to see showtimes ratings take a massive hit now :-(
Schaefer will be hard to replace ( not saying he can't be ) but it will be a long process. Oscar should have prepared for this and maybe he did but if he didn't it may cause him some hard times for a while. It was Schaefer who built that company, not Oscar, he was the money man and a figure head. I'm sure he has learned some things from the start till now but not enough to maintain the company for long on his own.
damn, this guy didnt even exist until his boss shitier was caught robbing dela hoya blind. how is this news again?
Heh noone in a company is irreplaceable. Just remember Schaefer did not know a thing when he started. While he ran the company, it was Oscars profile and money and HBO's backing that actually built the company. Schaefer turned out to be very skilled at handling day to day affairs... and learned the boxing ropes. He is far from the only talented person on the planet who could repeat the feat.
gee makes you wonder why oscar hired a banker to be CEO in the first place...lol i dont disagree that another talented executive could come in and repeat the feat(although thats what the board at apple thought about jobs....till they were begging him to come back....not that i think this is similar but still interesting to me).....but it will take a guy years to learn the ropes....to build relationships and contacts and have the confidence of everyone involved.....and now youve also removed a top marketing guy in binkow.....its just not that easy to replace imo....
The language to describe how they leave the company is simply a technicality designed to either avoid or trigger certain clauses in their contracts. Whenever there's an executive shakeup, this is what happens. Usually, the whole team is cleaned out so the new CEO can have his/her own squad.
It's not easy to replace, but GBP is still a sizable operation that can afford to recruit very good talent. Not top tier (no boxing promotional company can afford the best), but it's still an attractive opportunity.
