I hear what you're saying but HBO only played the hand because they saw money to be made from Oscar's popularity. They were not interested in running the business. That was Schaefer's job. As a matter of fact Schaefer invested money in the business himself, although not as much as Oscar. It was probably an executive at HBO who brought Oscar and Scheafer together cause they had no intention of running a promotional co. It would be a conflict of interest. They probably told Oscar, we will point you in the right direction with the right people and if you can bring us a workable business plan back, we will work with you. Scheafer knew what to do and they didn't look back until now.

 

Oscar and his dildo taking company are quickly falling apart and don't have **** on the future of boxing, Money Mayweather Promotions.

 

Surely he can pay his way out of it.

 

Sweetsciguru is so jealous and upset about Oscar looking better in fishnet stockings than him. That's all his problem is.
Fact is that Oscar could dress in absurd drag outfits every day of his life and still be more successful and appreciated than the self proclaimed guru could ever hope to be.

 

When GBP was getting going and for years thereafter, they had the full backing of HBO - because of Oscar. Oscar was still a major PPV attraction at the time.

Schaefer is a very talented guy, but some people are treating him like a visionary who built something from nothing all by himself. Thats just not the case, GBP promotion was strongly backed by the HBO Machine for many years.

 

The figure being bandied about for that is rumored to be 18 million actually.

 

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said and how I see it. Now, HBO had the vision, Oscar was the vehicle and Schaefer was the driver. Scheafer took it where it needed to go. No matter how you slice it, Schaefer took the business to where it's at today.

 

Whether you're backed by HBO Machine or not, you still have to make very good, very calculated decisions. Which Schaefer did.

You can have someone back you all the money in the world to start your business. But if you don't make the right moves, down the smallest detail. Things will fall apart. Take a look at other promotion companies, that ALSO have HBO backing, that are still not taking off the way GBP has in the past few years. Main Events, K2, Lou Dibella, Gary Shaw, etc.

I could give you 200 bucks right now, and maybe you can turn that 200 bucks into a 10000. but only with the right decisions. Its as simple as that.

Schaefer's knowledge of finances from his banking days, helped him a lot in the boxing world because he knows how to make calculated decisions, sometimes thinking far ahead to determine various possible outcomes. Add that with a clear mind, and a killer work ethic, and you have the results they did. GBP was neck and neck (if not a bit ahead of Top Rank) in recent years, despite only being founded in 2002, in comparison with Top Rank being founded in 1973.

Thats no coincidence. And to be honest, If anyone has been the "Face" of GBP, its Floyd. The biggest events were with him. The fighters gained most exposure with him.

People dont like to admit it, because its a bit offensive. But Oscar's drug past was never good for the company, and when you do **** like that, people dont respect you the way you want them to. Golden Boy fighters, execs, manangers never thanked Oscar, they thanked Schaefer. The guy in the meetings busting his ass.
