He died from a drug overdose at the young age of 44. He had been struggling with addiction for years. I will always remember him as the man that gave a young Kostya Tszyu his toughest fight to date. Kostya BARELY came away with the win on my card. He also handed Ener Julio, and Israel Cardona their first loses and came very close to winning a world title against Miguel Angel Gonzalez and Sammy Fuentes, who he lost a controversial split decision to for the WBO Jr. welterweight title. Rest In Peace Champ.

Sad news. Rest in Peace Hector.

Reading this news made me think about Johnny Tapia issues with cocaine. I do hope Tapia is working on keeping clean and sober. Tapia had a very unfortunate childhood, do hope he doesn't suffer the same fate.

I had not heard anything of Hector for 10 years ! Only a few weeks ago I came across him. He was excited about his son starting to box and spoke of people giving him grief about his Kids looking at getting INK. Now he is gone . WOW.
