    anyone heard of this :huh

just read on boxrec. couldnt believe it. she was suppose to be the next best thing in female boxing, the female verison of leonard. and im not kidding she was especially talented. she was going to fight the winner of the holly holm - mary jo sanders which would of made a probable p4p 1 vs p4p 2.

for her to pass away is terrible (any passing is terrible of course) but at only 21 and already undisputed 154lbs champ.

I'll be the first to admit that I NEVER watch ANY female boxing nor do I know a damn thing about the going ons in female boxing but checking boxrec today they had "RIP Jisselle Salandy" as a headline on the top of the page so I clicked on the link to her boxrec statistics and wow she really must have been something special.

The girl was only 21 at the time of death listed as today 1-4-2009 and she'd already unified the light middleweight division last march! She won both the WBC and WBA light middleweight title at only 19 years old and she has been pro since 2000 at the ridiculously young age of 13! Her record was 17(6 KO)-0-0 . Unbeleivable that she was only 21 when she died and she'd accomplished so much.

As I said I do not keep up with womens boxing at all but judging by her achievements at such a young age she seemed to be on her way to becoming one of if not THE greatest female boxer of all time.

    What a shame- RIP. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=129093&cat=boxer

Anyone ever see her fight? I'm interested in knowing if she was impressive as her boxrec stats make her out to be.

i made a very similar post. cant belive it.

she was my fav female fighter i saw her fights on daily motion and even on a 4 inch screen sould you see she was massivly talented. great handspeed always moving but still had her feet planted (think toney or leonard in stance), nice jab and great technique. blew away competition. and as i said before she was supposed to fight sanders or holm...but they fought each other instead. and a suppposed super fight was in 2009.

her hometown advantage and staggered competition does make her record look baised and i do think she could of been beaten but she was just coming of age by now. and i think she would of beaten alot of top tier opponants.

im just hoping it was/is a muck up on boxrec....bad mistakes have happend on boxrec before. joe louis once was scheduled to fight vitali (it never came off in the end)
and there is no news on her except her career.

    it happend only today.

    it's suspected it's a car accident.

unfortunately i don't think boxrec's wrong this time...i did a search to confirm it and on a prominent female boxing site it said she died in a car accident.

i know this is slightly unsavoury but i think she will be remembered alot more now. mark me,she will be remembered favorably at 154 in later years.

i actually cant remember any fighter who passed away while being unbeaten, in the top 5 p4p and undisputed world champion.

well i think this thread will be the center of news on the subject in the next few days

Trinidad and Tobago champion boxer Jizelle Salandy, 20, was pronounced dead at hospital this morning following a road accident, the details of which are still forthcoming, according to reports.

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Gary Hunt hosted a media conference this morning on the tragic and untimely death of champion boxer Jizelle Salandy. Also extending condolences and support at the press conference were Jizelle's Manager Boxu Potts, Chairman of the Boxing Board of Control Brian Lewis, Minister of Information Neil Parsanlal and Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs Marlene McDonald.

Below is the full text of the presentation made by Minister Hunt at the media conference this morning. He highlighted many aspects of her biography as a means of recounting her illustrious career in service to Trinidad and Tobago as its most decorated female boxer. The Ministry obtained the biography from Jizelle's Manager Boxu Potts.

    JIZELLE SALANDY’S BIOGRAPHY

Jizelle Salandy has been through it all and survived many obstacles in her life to become one of the most accomplished boxers in boxing history.

Born on January 25th, 1987, Jizelle Salandy has had from a young age to deal with the passing of her mother, Maureen Salandy, who loved her dearly but never spoon fed her, which gave her the level of mental toughness that she has today, unfortunately Jizelle had to deal with her mother’s death at the tender age of eleven.

After the passing of her mother she was taken in by Ms. Ivy Corian who took the responsibility of caring for Jizelle as a mother, between the ages of eleven to fourteen. Ms. Ivy Corian played a vital role in fashioning Jizelle’s life in a positive direction, which during that period Jizelle attended St. Bourgies R.C. School and then on to Penal Junior Secondary School, then later on to Fyzabad Composite School.

At the age of 11, Jizelle visited the White Eagle Boxing Gym with a broken hand with her step brother Joel Eligon and started punching a punching bag which at that said time her talent was recognized by the trainers in the gym. Jizelle thereafter got involved in the sport, which she admired and then it all started, raking up a series of victories throughout Trinidad & Tobago and other islands, including Tortola and Anguilla, meeting along the way, Joanna Alvarez and Ria Ramnarine just to name a few.

Then, in October 2001, on the island of Curacao, came the moment of truth which altered her professional focus on the sport. Jizelle Salandy became the youngest human being on planet earth to win a world boxing title at the tender age of 14 years, smashing a world record and because of the new change of the age laws in boxing that record, will never be broken.

Thereafter, she could not box because the laws of Trinidad and Tobago did not permit her to do so. At 17 years she returned to the ring in Chaguanas and defended her IBERO Title, thereafter she had a stop-start career.

Resuming at age 18, on September 23rd 2005, on a T&T versus USA boxing card, promoted by Boxu Potts, Salandy broke a second world record by becoming the youngest female in the world to win the NABC World Title. However, mismanagement stopped her career again, but as “Lady Luck” will have it, she came in contact with promoter Boxu Potts again in June of 2006, when she fought and won on a boxing card promoted by Arthur Sanderson back in her hometown of Fyzabad, which was where the relationship was born. Boxu Potts became her official promoter and from there on her career sky rocketed, there was no stopping her.

On September 15th, 2006 Jizelle became the youngest human being in the world to unify the two most prestigious titles in the world, the WBA and WBC world titles; these titles are equivalent to that of an Olympic Gold Medal in the game of boxing. On December 9th, 2006 Jizelle shattered yet another world record by becoming the 1st boxer in the world to win 6 belts in one fight, which are the WBA, WBC, WBE, NABC, IWBF and WIBA, a feat of which not even the great Mohammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman and Oscar De La Joya, just to name a few, can speak. For these achievements Salandy was awarded by WOMEN BOXING ARCHIVE NETWORK (WBAN) Top History Making Fighter for the year 2006 and was also awarded First Citizens Sportswoman of the year 2006.

Jizelle has record breaking written all over her. On March 24th, 2007, at Skinner Park, San Fernando, she defended all 6 world titles and was victorious yet again. With these achievements Salandy was awarded the Chaconia Gold Medal for her contribution towards the development of boxing in the region and of the world.

On November 30th, 2007, at the Jean Pierre Complex she once again defeated her opponent keeping her titles right here at home in Trinidad and Tobago. She fought Dakota Stone of the USA who is rated number three in the world; this was one of her toughest and best fights in the history of boxing in this region.

On March 15th, 2008, in Magdeburg, Germany, Natascha Ragosina competed for seven titles and won, causing Salandy to lose her world record for winning multiple belts in one fight. However, on March 29th, 2008 at the Centre of Excellence, only two weeks after losing her world record to Ragosina, Salandy regained it by winning eight title belts in one fight when she fought her mandatory defense against Karolina Lukasik; this fight was the biggest feat of her boxing career.

Salandy broke five world records in her illustrious boxing career, something no boxer in the world, male or female, has ever done.
