A big chunk of my childhood has passed. It's weird, having followed the guy for nearly 40 years, to have him gone now. I hope Ali doesn't attend the funeral because he'll end up getting all the attention.
A very sad day indeed. Thanks for gracing us with your presence, Smokin' Joe. You will forever be missed.
One of the most heroic men to have ever lived, in the most literal sense of that time: fearless, honourable, determined, and awe-inspiring. He and Rocky Marciano are the kings of the heavyweight swarmers. There hasn't been a heavyweight like him since. "When will we see the like again?" A part of why I got into boxing was admiration for the warrior spirit of Joe Frazier. He was an inspiring figure who accomplished all that he set out to do through hard work and determination. While it is sad to us fans, his friends and family that he has passed away, I'm sure he left with very few regrets. May he rest in peace.
R.I.P Champ....Thankyou for everything, You are a true boxing immortal now... I'l be watching some more of fights this week with a tear in my eye BUT a smile on my face :bbb
I remember when I was in middle school my father bought two tapes on VHS Ali-Foreman, and Ali-Frazier III. Not a bad introduction to the sport. Frazier's fighting spirit awed me. I knew of Ali's legend and personality, and I saw two Spartans laying it all on the line... but it was Smokin' Joe Frazier who really struck a chord with me. I was uplifted by his hard-working, never-stopping, always pushing forward bobbing & weaving style. It was an all-consuming, energizing style that had beauty to it. He didn't just push forward with his chin in the air. He was as unrelentingly economical as possible. His giant heart and warrior mentality were just as awe-inspiring as his aesthetically pleasing swarming, bobbing & weaving left hook style were
The song "They don't make them like they used to" by Kenny Rogers I am dedicating to Smokin' Joe tonight.
great fighter. if most fighters fought like frazier they would get beat up. Frazier had great timing and power, he knew how to position himself before unloading, he perfected a way of doubling up his power shot and beating the opponent to the draw with it. There was just no quit in the man what so ever. His no nonsence aproach, pride and honesty shone through his fighting style in the ring. RIP SMOKING JOE.
Sad that he's gone but privileged at the fights and moments he gave us. One of the true greats, an elite of the elite. RIP Smokin' Joe, and thank you.
Goodbye Smokin' Joe - You left it all in the ring for your fans and we won't ever stop appreciating it. A true champion and a testament to hard work and determination.
He feared no one, never gave up...... Smokin' Joe Frazier....a man. You will never be forgotten champ....RIP
