One of the most visually striking boxers ever. He looked like he was standing on a pair of stilts, so long were his legs, but instead of teetering and tottering on them he dipped and darted around the ring to the extent that he earned the nickname Pocket Cassius Clay (Legra actually debuted a couple of months before Ali). He ended up in Mexico when Castro banned pro boxing in Cuba, as Jose Napoles did. Legra, though, moved on to Spain and fought out of that country for his career. He won two world titles, each with a dominating performance, over Howard Winstone and Clemente Sanchez respectively, but both times dropped the belt in his first defense, in fights that easily could have been scored the other way. He passed away at age 83 yesterday, after suffering from dementia, like so many other of his companions. Give his fights a look if you can. He really is something to behold.
