He was a great champion in the golden age of boxing. His greatest was win was probably over the great Fighting Harada in his backyard. He also has a win over Guts Ishimatzu. His most memorable fight was probably his controversial win over Chucho Castillo. Most people probably remember the riot after the fight, but the fight itself was very close and entertaining. RIP Champ. Also, from everything Ive read, he did a lot for Australian sports and was well know even outside the boxing world.
RIP. Lionel was a great ambassador for boxing here in Australia and a true inspiration and role model for Aboriginal people like myself. He left behind a great legacy for Australian boxing!
