Truly a marvelous fighter and one of the best that I've had the pleasure of seeing. He will truly be missed. RIP Champ.

I only watched Pea vs Nelson a couple of days ago after the Mayweather-Whitaker thread on here. It sure as hell made me reassess my vote on the poll as to who was greater (I still rate Floyd highly but Pea is every bit as great and talented).

It's rare to see an absolute ATG like Nelson beaten as thoroughly as he was as close to his peak like he was. Whitaker was not only a defensive master but an underrated attacking fighter who could throw a sh1t ton of punches without being countered. His boxing IQ was off the charts and he had some special athletic gifts to complement that brain and instincts.

This guy was the best when I started following the sport so I'm gutted right now. Feels like part of my youth has died, without being too melodramatic.

One of, if not the best filmed fighter I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. A true ATG and one of the very best operators the sport has seen. RIP Champ

Right up there with my favourite fighters of all time. Had unique and freakish gifts all of his own, and it's a great injustice that he never quite got the recognition and status he deserved during his career. Equally sad that he fell on hard times after it, too.

R.I.P Sweet Pea, you've given me and millions of others plenty of joy with your mastery in the ring. One of the greatest fighters of his era.

    This is terible news.

We have lost enough great fighters before their time, without ridiculous accidents like this happening!
