This is 100 per cent correct. He never should have fought again after Duran. As I understand it, he had to use a wheelchair for quite a while after the Duran fight, so the cerebral deficit was apparent immediately afterward. When I met him, his eyes were not synchronized. Luckily, I think he had family support afterward.

At the time of his bout with Vilomar Fernandez in New York City, Ray Lampkin was scheduled to have another bout in California. But something didn't look right to at least one individual who saw Lampkin's bout with Fernandez. As I recall, it was alleged that Lampkin's legs looked shaky during the bout. After the bout, the California Athletic Commission was contacted, which led to Lampkin not being permitted to box in California.

I saw the Lampkin's bout with Roberto Duran on television. Lampkin looked terrific throughout the bout up to the time that he was knocked out in the 14th round. After the bout, Lampkin spent some time in the hospital. As I recall, Lampkin's condition was uncertain for a time. Considering Lampkin's condition after that bout, I thought that it was unseemly for CBS to include footage of Duran's knockout of Lampkin in the highlights of various sports events at the end of the CBS Sports Spectacular program for quite a while.

Lampkin General Contractor, LLC - so I'm guessing he may have done alright for himself.
