I think it's possible. That RJ was a monster who had the mindset of Mike Tyson in his prime. Out to kill and destroy. He just wanted to show what he could do when he pushed the gas.

Prime RJJ wouldn't stop prime Hopkins, but he'd toy with him and win all 12.

prime jones doesn't stop prime BHOP. no one does. he may beat him, but even then, prime Hopkins was a different fighter who could adapt. Prime hopkins is the cream of the crop. i have a hard time picturing anyone stop him. if anyone did get stopped, it would be jones. but outside of stoppages, jones would likely win a decision

Oh dear me, next we'll have a thread asking if Hearns from the Duran fight would be capable of stopping Carlos Monzon.

I'm no RJJ hater infact I quite like the guy but there's no way he stops a prime Hopkins or wins all 12 rounds as someone suggested, naturally RJJ's style would always cause problems for Hopkins but there's hardly any chance he stops any version of Hopkins, not with Hopkins defence.

And talking prime 4 prime if anyone was getting stopped it would be Jones.

You forgetting Roy had massive power carrying his power up in the weight classes he was in.
If rj got in his grove I think he was capable of landing flush power shots the whole fight.

I dunno about stopping him, but he'd beat him comfortably. No shame in that imho, because he'd do it to Monzon or Hagler as well. RJJ is the best MW and SMW we've ever seen, and #2 isn't that close.

They did fight prime 4 prime. Well, almost. But both were green. But Jones was far too fast for Hopkins. Hopkins wasn't as polished and savvy though.

But the RJ that showed up against Griffin 2 was a different fighter than any of his other fights. He looked for the KO. He had never done that in any other fight. And he just destroyed an elite fighter in seconds. Who knows what this version of Jones could've done. He would've been devastating. Yeah, the notion that he can KO Hopkins is out there but i wouldn't completely rule it out either given how special RJ was and we are talking SPECIFICALLY about the RJ in Griffin 2 and not the guy who was content on just winning a wide UD.

I could see Roy catching Hop with something... that mildly stuns hopkins, and then roy follows up with a huge furry that leads to a stoppage. His speed was so great and he could really follow up on a hard punch if he wanted to.

Man, prime RJ was so special. It's just a shame he didn't get the great level of opposition to showcase his talents outside of Toney/Hopkins. Not his fault though.

If Hopkins was good at anything its neutralising someones offense, clinching, holding, headbutting, Low blows . . . . . in short Roy jones wouldnt KO him or dominate. The old man is a nightmare for anyone.

As a famous quote from banksy says "become good at cheating and you never have to become good at anything else"
