RJJ apart, is Joe Calzaghe the best fighter Hopkins will have faced?

How does the RJJ that Hopkins fought compare to the Calzaghe of today?

I never saw Jones at that stage of his career.

    I don't think he'd beat Joe.

I think he represented a genuine threat to Hopkins, because he's fast and a fundamentally good boxer. Bernard admitted that DLH was a bigger threat than Tito, because of the above. Remember, that was vs. Hopkins weighing in at 156.

So DLH vs. Hopkins (156) is a bigger threat to B-Hop than Calzaghe vs. Hopkins (175).

But definitely, at 168 Calzaghe destroys De La Hoya and same for Bernard, he would have annihilated DLH at 168.

I've seen it, see argument above. Oscar had Hopkins weighing under 157 for their fight.

Sturm is also a different style. Used his size well (high guard, good pressure, stiff jab, ala Winky).

Yes he is, and that's why Hopkins will lose.

Has everything to do with your credibility, laughing at DLH's boxing.

De La Hoya is an ATG that has fought EVERYONE and has never been outclassed. He's a 6 weight division champ and has fought more world champs than any active fighter. He fought Hopkins at 157 and was a live threat at that weight.

Calzaghe is undefeated, ok, but hasn't fought 1/10th of the competition Oscar fought. So in terms of experience, I don't think he has a third of the experience Oscar has.

Moreover, he's fighting Hopkins at 175, and at that weight, he'll be more flat footed and will only have his fast hands between he and Hopkins. And it won't be enought, mark my words.

    Why would I be desperate.

April 19th is coming fast. And Bernard will shut ya'll up for good. I even bet a life time exile from ESB on this fight. The outcome is so clear.

I wasnt laughing at De La Hoya, I was laughing at you. I am in fact a big admirer of Oscars, he is an ATG imo, but Hopkins stoppage win over him must be taken with a pinch of salt, if you win world titles at super feather, chances are your not a middleweight!

In fact all of Hopkins best wins have a some kind of question mark over them, Tito was a welter fighting at 160, Wright was a light middle fighting at 170, Tarver was coming off a life and death struggle with Rocky Balboa and only throws 2 punches a round. Joe Calzaghe though is a big 168lb fighter and will fit naturally into 175, he isnt that young but still fighting to the best of his ability he is essentially still at his peak and coming off his finest win.

I dont like picking holes in Nards cv though because that can be done with anyone, and I rate Hopkins CV very very highly, he is top draw. However the reason I beleive Calzaghe wins is like you said much quicker, fights at a pace Hopkins is not used to, Hopkins is old and will have too retire soon, Joe wont struggle with the weight therefore if anything he will be fresher and arguably hit harder. Nard wont be able to control the fight like he did with a zombie like Tarver, he will be out worked, out speeded, i beleive he will even be beaten were the fight to turn into a brawl. Calzaghe UD.

Guess we'll have to wait for April 19th. Nice thing with boxing is that there is a final arbiter to discussion board arguments: the fight.

    Bernard TKO 9.

Calzaghe is the most dangerous fight for Hopkins outside of the Jones, Trinidad and Tarver fights and that is due to Hopkins being 43.

You can't hold Hopkins's performance against Trinidad against him. Just like the way Calzaghe fans cry when someone suggests Lacy wasn't a good win on the basis of his performance against Joe.

You are kidding yourself if you think Nard can stop Calzaghe.
