RJJ apart, is Joe Calzaghe the best fighter Hopkins will have faced?

This is such a stupid topic. Is Calzaghe the best fighter Roy Jones apart? In what sense of best? P4P he is probably Bernard's 5th or 6th best opponent. In terms of his threat to Hopkins, probably 4th. He MIGHT, because he is bigger than most, be 2nd or 3rd head-to-head. Does that sound fair?

As I said: the fight will determine who's right.

    Hopkins TKO 9.

What evidence is there that Nard has nearly enough pop on his shots that he can ko a fighter who has taken clean blows to the chin off of heavier punchers?

In what sense the best? We have lots of different fighters, fighting at different weights, fighting older and younger versions of hopkins. "the best" is meaningless.

    :huh

No the best, as in if you put any of Hopkins oponents in with Calzaghe bar Roy Jones, he would beat them senceless. Therefore he is the best fighter that Hopkins has faced in the ring, not the most accomplished.

But H2H the best and it is not close at all.

Calzaghe is more dangerous than Taylor, Trinindad, Wright and Tarver it is beyond dispute.

Id like to see an analysis on why Felix Trinidad is better than Joe Calzaghe without somebody scouring through his boxrec page.

Trinindad may have been more FAMOUS than Calzaghe but he is certainly isnt better.

it seems that though you thought it was stupid, you still deemed it interesting enough to give your opinion on the subject.

imo, props to the thread starter for an interesting topic.

That depends on what you mean by "better". I don't think he's a more dangerous opponent for Hopkins than Calzaghe, but I do think he's a better boxer than Calzaghe.

I will always favor the more technically sound fighter over the unorthodox fighter every day of the week. Although I think highly of RJJ, I don't regard him as a great technical boxer, so I've always favor Hopkins over RJJ.

Joe is a bit too wild for my tastes. He throws alot of wide looping punches and many times hits with the side of his hands. Not something I like to see in a fighter. Tito, although not the best defensive fighter, threw fantastic punches. That's why I rate Tito as a better fighter.

Still, Joe would beat Tito h2h simply because of his speed and size.
