One, you don't know who has seen whom. Two, not a single poster here has mentioned Jones dominating them, including myself.

At his best, Jones would be favored against everyone on that list, except Spinks. Do you dispute this?

    Valid point.

But a lot of people get the impression that he dominated Hopkins when it was dead even untill the later rounds where Jones' speed started to pick him up points.

I honestly believe 1998+ Hopkins would have had the better of Roy, and 2000 when he inexplicably became very ordinary I believe Hopkins would be the favourite.

As for James Toney fight indeed it was an awsome performance. I still feel like down by Toney today because I know hes a lot better than that.

As it stands tho, i still think Roy isnt the fighter we thought him all to be because he was caught using anabolics.

Ok, myabe I should have not directed my reply to you, I was posting from my TREO...not an excused just a fact...now that said...

It is clear that many of the other poster with total disregards of these fighters abilities and accomplishements, they have totally disregard the competiton and put RJJ at the top...not so easy...

I will start with this comment, Glencoffe Johnson style and Tarver styles are the closest examples to the style of fighters he would ahve faced on this era......all of them were hard punchers and aggressive pressure battlers with great inside fighting ability, with the exception of Michael Spinks,...but please to dismissed all these fighters as RJJ vixiticms is ludicrous and you know it...

Plus lets not forget that this guys were true LHW in weight and height....all 6'-0 or better...

    RJJ win against:

Mike Rossman-Rossman would ahve a punchers chances agasint RJJ, I beleive he would get tire of chasing RJJ the entire night....and lose by accumulation of punches RJJ by late TKO..but RJJ better be aware of Rossman power on both hands

John Conteh: Yet another bomber that would have trouble handling RJJ speed, I see this fight going the same as Rossman , RJJ by TKO by accumulation of punches last

Mathew Saad Muhammad: RJJ would fair well agiant Mathew SAAD, he like to mixed it up and could be hit, still had the power, as a Philly fighter he brought it on every fight...tougght win for RJJ but a win...againt potentially by TKO by accumulation

    Pick'n:

Mate Parlow: the only two reasons I would say that RJJ would ahve atougher time with Parlow are simple: 6'-2" and southpaw, he was a gold medalist in Munich for the LHW competiton, so he was and accomplished amateur...that made him extremelly slick and tricky he would ahve presented a challenge to RJJ, again for me to close to call..

Marvin Johnson: again tall 6'-0" southpaw, hit like a truck...I beleive that Marvin would have presented some issues in similar fashion to Tarver for RJJ.....again Pick'n..Marvin was not a defensive specialied he like to rumble so that's RJJ chances

Eddy Mustafa Muhammad-strong LHW at 6'-1" and power would ahve presented issues for RJJ to resolve...that he could outpointed possibly, RJJ would be on dire straits in few rounds....RJJ should win this fight, but is not a given

    RJJ at disadvantage:

Dwight Muhammad Qawi: even though he was short he was swarming, powerful and would not quite or go down...ask Michale Spinks is he was not tought or not, he was able to dominate taller opponents by pressure pure, pressure, with the cross arm defense and powerful lefthooks, Qawi would ahve made RJJ earn every round he won....I can see Qawi mand handling RJJ as he did Spinks...I like Qawi by TKO ...if you say well he had 11 loses, well I will tell you that most of them came at Cruiser weight, were he was substatially a smaller man at this weight class...

Michael Spinks: a tough, well schooled 6'-3" boxer that can punch, Spinks was the complete package at LHW, I can not see RJJ winning this fight on 9 out of 10 times.....sorry but I can't...Micahel brought to m uch to the table along with his height and reach adavantage...not a good match for RJJ

Victor Galindez- stacky powerfull tought Argentinian with a huge heart, and powrful right hand if it was not for two detach retina he would have stayed in the game longer..he was forced retiered from boxing ....RJJ would ahve trouble handling the constant pressure set by Galindez....

And that's the way I see it, at 5'-11" RJJ would have tought time handling the taller LHW and thestronger Qawi...that's the way I see it...

And this is not an attack on RRJ, I am applying from what I saw on each of this fighter who I watch them fight in numerous occassions as I did RJJ...Iam not just saying something for the sake of it like many of the ones that have posted on the thread...

in many ways RJJ is the Barry Bonds of boxing.....but with RJJ we had the proof that indeed he was using anabolic steroids....

Roids Junior...he is the man...but in all honesty, I beleive that he would ahve had a tought time handling the bigger LHW during this period!!

No obssesion here chump...this is legitimate thread about what I beleive was the toughest period during the LHW..and according to my analyis RJJ would ahve had a tough time handling this big guys.....that all hit like a truck..and I put RJJ fights agaisnt Glencoffe and Tarver as clear example of this fact

The problem with all RJJ hugers is that they get blinded by the light rather than the facts....we know he roided , its been well documented, but the boxers on this period, asI posted earlier other than a few, he would have had the toughest of time....

I'm no expert on this time period, so bare with me here. But I believe of those names, Spinks, Qawi, Muhammad could all beat him; I think Yaqui Lopez could give him a tough fight, as could some of those other names. This was a stacked time period in the 175 pound weight class; one with lots of good and great fighters. Roy may not have ever appeared so dominant if he had fought guys of that caliber in his reign, but unfortunately, not many existed. He fought guys who were well below his talent level and looked unreal doing it. I do feel RJJ is one of, if not the best, Super Middleweight ever, but when you start getting up into that Light Heavy range, you start getting some big, strong dudes who can fight and who still have good skills, especially in that time period.

Really...now...I spend a little of time analysis these matches and posted on it, if you are sure I am wrong...can you refute it....I put some factual issues regarding his problem with tall southpaws that can punch-Tarver, or tall LHW that can punch and are busy fighters Glencoffe for example and many of the boxers on this period were exactly that hard punchers, busy punchers inside fighter...etc...so I had some parallels I use to base my analysis...so on what you based your...on Well I said so...so it is true...did you see the majority of this boxers fight during their prime, yes or no...lets just start with that question...if you didn;t then your are not qualify to comment on the thread are you....

Again I am not making this a RJJ thread but a legitimate thread on how he would ahve faired in arguably the best period of LHW's in history

Which is entirely true. The point is Orisha is jumping the gun on other people's analysis. Jones is going to be favored in most of these fights. I don't recall anyone here saying they couldn't beat Jones. Just that Jones would be favored. Except against Spinks, who would beat him 7-10 IMO.

I appreciate your honesty, but you also understood that this was abrutal peiord for any LHW they were all tought and better than that they all wanted to fight each other and they did, they all beat each other numerous time...hell all you ahve to do is look at their resume, and you will see that they preatty much beat on each other that was it....RJJ would have had the oughest time with this huge LHW's...regardless of his speed...

Jones had trouble with ONE tall southpaw at age 34. I am assuming we are talking about 28 yr old Jones. Also, pressure fighters tended to do ok for a few rounds until Jones knocked them out. You are using examples from the end of Jones career as opposed to the prime of it.

Yes I have seen all of those fighters. You cannot qualify others knowledge. You see things on Jones from a horrible perspective. So you are just as unqualified IMO.

Your thread has been answered. No amount of analysis is going to change the answers given.
