JOE Calzaghe is set for a farewell fight with another American boxing legend after beating Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas, but this time at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Veteran Roy Jones Jnr, 39, guest summariser for BBC Wales during the Hopkins fight, has revealed talks are already under way for another blockbuster night at the Millennium Stad-ium.

The Argus understands that TV giants HBO have earmarked November 15 for the clash.

Jones' stock is on the rise once again, he's followed three successive defeats by beating Felix Trinidad.

Jones is a long-time target for Calzaghe and has revealed why he is finally ready to meet the pride of Wales.

He explained: "Joe Calzaghe is a great champion and now is the time for us to get it on.

"In the past I have not wanted to fight Calzaghe, because I was the man and Joe was a European fighter who meant nothing in the US.

"But now Calzaghe is the man. HBO have told me to keep November 15 free and it looks like a fight between us is finally going to happen.

"I am close to signing a two-fight deal and have no problems coming to the UK.

"I guess the Millennium Stadium or Wembley are the only places big enough to hold all of Calzaghe's supporters."

Jones, a three-weight world champion, is happy for the clash to be at either super-middleweight or light heavy.

"I can get ready to fight at both weights, it depends which belts Joe wants to put on the line," he said.

Jones' CV is hugely impressive, having also beaten Bernard Hopkins, as well as Clinton Woods, Antonio Tarver and Trinidad.

However, Calzaghe's desire to fight at the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden, in New York City, is another possible destination for a fight that now seems a certainty.

Calzaghe, clearly disappointed with his first-round knockdown, has given the green light to clashing with Jones.

"Roy is a legend, someone I have always respected, and as my next fight could be my last, I will need to think very carefully about who I fight.

"Roy and Kelly Pavlik are maybe the only two names out there now, I have come to America and become the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world and I am running out of things to prove.

"It has always been a dream of mine to fight in America and I have done that now, I will take a holiday and a rest and then we'll see what the options are."

Calzaghe's father, Enzo, bemoaned Bernard Hopkins' lack of class, giving Joe no credit at the post- fight press conference and claiming he won the fight.

"Bernard is a word you couldn't print in the paper," he told the Argus.

"He took a five-minute break for a non-existent low-blow, he used his head throughout the fight and he didn't try to win, he tried to nullify Joe.

"Ultimately we are coming home with Joe still undefeated and with the tag as the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world. I feel incredibly proud and I am sure the whole of Britain feels the same way."

What happen to all those dreams about fighting at the MSG:lol:...well he isn't called Stayathomejoe for nothin:lol:

...and like Hopkins said at the press conference there is no way he would have got the decision if the roles were reversed and the fight was in Wales so basically RJJ would have to KO Calzaghe and nobody in their right mind sees that happening (a Frank Warren bought british ref would give Calzaghe 5+ minutes to recover)

It really says a lot when 40 year old fighters are still competing at the elite level.

why should Calzaghe fight in the US? He is the man! He fights where he wants! It must be **** going from 50,000 fans at home to 15,000 in the so called ''mecca of boxing''.

It is Hatton who wants to fight at MSG!

It's amazing how the Americans always say 'the challenger should go to the champion' yet in Calzaghe's instance this no longer applies.

In fairness, Calzaghe should have fought more fights away from home, but if the money is better for a certain venue, that usually holds sway over here. Don't forget, our promoters have to pay for a venue, unlike the US where I understand they bid for the right to host the fight.

Could someone confirm if this is true?

Calzaghe has fought 50% more fights outside the UK than Hopkins has outside the US in his pro-career.

Roy Jones, unbelievably, has never fought a pro-fight outside his home country. Good to see him finally growing a set of balls and applying for a passport :good

Hush, Calzaghe came to America and fought the topdog at lhw, the man with the most chance of beating JoeC and he did it.

He deserves to fight whoever he wants now, I mean, PBF has been doing it for years.

I would really like to see calzaghe vs pavlik or calzaghe vs dawson sometime before he retires. The dawson fight more than the pavlik fight as kelly really has no chance to win that one.

I believe it's certainly the case for Casinos, where the show is essentially a loss leader to bring in the punters.

Calzaghe gets no credit from this fight, but he's looking for one big payday. All the power to him.

I so want RJJ to win this.

the thomas and mack paid $11 towards DLH costs to stage the calzaghe v hopkins fight.

but DLH gave back a few million it was reported because ticket sales were so slow and the thomas and mack was beleived to be in line for a $5 million loss on the fight.

it is a big advantage for an american promoter with a name fighter.

Calzaghe can **** off into retirement as far as I'm concerned, if he is choosing a washed up name like Jones as his last fight.

Pavlik, Dawson are harder, meaningful fights, and fights that Joe can get now, and he ****ing knows it. I have supported him throughout his career, but if he wants to take an easy money fight against a shot name, that his ignorant Welsh fans will suck up, he deserves every bit of his lack of recognition, lack opf respect and does not deserve a legacy.

Pavlik is the fight which would really cement Joe's legacy, and the fight is more than realistic.
