Hearns was great as well. To say he wasn't half as good as Jones is an insult to him.

 

Jone's fans are amoung the most ignorant.....he was never ever undisputed champion of anything at any weight....once there were more educated fans than I who really marched the DM facts across the board....fact one, Jones had a clause in his HBO contract that forbid the very mention of DM.
In thier primes I'd had the fight 6 to 5 for Jones...as a DM fan....up till he ran into Tavar....That fight happened so....Tavar wins the belt....Tavar Challanges DM to a fight. DM accepts the very same day. :good

Three days later Jones suddenly has a bad blood blister with Tavar whom he ignored all thier lives...seeing both were from the same state and time. Well he had to do something, his manditory was Vittili, and if any Jones fan thinks he'd beaten Vittili, please explain how????

He was never undisputed Lt. Heavy Champ, because DM had three belts first of which two which were stripped from him unfairly in a day and a month, ended up with Jones....

Never fought Grochachinni who won Jone's vacant title in the ring, vs Nunn only to become the very first Interum Champ of all times.....
As a Heavy....
Never fought his manditories Tua, or Vittili, never unified or fought the other 3 current champs in Middle, or or the 3 other Champions in Super Middle either.....
Made the fight with Hill at 178 so he'd not lose his Championship (only one at the time in that Hill had just lost 2 belts to DM)....not much of a Champion is our fella Jones in my mind.
And his fans ignore all this....totally:hi: ....deny it....totally.....:bart

You can always tell the biased ones who only point out what Jones didn't do, never focusing on what he did do. Give me any fighter, and I can do the same thing:thumbsup

 

The issues he presented are nice and all, yet there is no focus on what Jones actually did, only on what he didn't do.

He also has a few BS things in there like Jones ignoring Tarver, which is a outright lie. (Tarver was getting a shot at Jones 3 yrs before he finally fought him, and Harding beat him). He places blame on Jones for not fighting DM, who fought lesser competition than Jones and was just as guilty. The clause in Jones' contract is a rumor that was made up. Merchant mentioned him all the time. He is wrong about the Hill fight, as it was Hill who was having trouble with the weight....thus why he never fought at LHW again. Common knowledge.

Jones plainly made offers to the other SMW champions. They turned him down, including Liles, who was offered a career high payday.

 

I'm not a Jones fan and don't even care about him, but to say that he isn't Top100 P4P ATG is just idiotic.

 

Too late to honor the lineal title. It would have to be stripped and re-established. Erdai, again, is the perfect example of this. He is fighting no one of note and holding on to the Lineal title.

Sure, pre 1990 it was far more valuable. But you cannot hold it against fighters who didn't get it past then. Fighting the best fighter in the division is what matters IMO.

 

I don't think any title is more honorable than fighter the best fighters in your weight class.

No way...he was never ever the one and only champion of the world for even one fight....
That Jones would beat the snot out of short armed Bo Bo Olson is a given...lots of very good fighters did..but Kid McCoy would have given him fits, or Greb, or Walker or most of the names you ever heard of...because they were Champions, and he is and was nothing but a belt holder. He lacked heart. Never ever tried to unify...ever.

He dodged DM, like Robinson dodged Bevins....But Robinson fought everyone else.....Jones didn't...Dodged DM, Tua and Vittili...Lewis too.....

Robinson would have beaten him...

Rosenbloom might well have beaten him.... Tunney would have, so would Loughran, or Archi Moore...
Technically he had the skills, but no balls...just like fighting that midget Tito... He could have beaten Cannara...Him and Patterson would have been a good fight. Or Machen. Don't know if he'd win....

Sharkey, Bear,and Schmelling would have been tough for him. Not to think of a Dempsey...who put rocks in his pants to make it seem that he weighted more than 178 pounds...Dempsey said that in his book...
Holyfield or Moore at Lt Heavy.....

I expect he could beat a Zale, or Graziano and beaten a LaMotta...but that is questionable, in they came to fight..

Harold Johnson would have beaten him, Doug Jones....Paul Pender would have given him a good fight. He's beat my man Fulmer, more than likely. Dick Tiger would press him hard....Don't think he'd beat Bob Foster....Micheal Spinks, or for tht matter Mathew Saad Muhamed or Eddie Mustafa Mohmmed, they hit hard.and were extream prsessure fighters.

He's lose to Monzone, Benevuti would have been a good close fight.
Julian Jackson would have torn his head off, sooner or later.
And in a tough fight he could perhaps have beaten Ottka, but never challanged him for some odd reason....Eubank thought he'd lose to him, I believe...but that would have been close.......

Add a young Joe Louis of 195 pounds or an Ali of Terrils time.....or a 195 pound Smoking Joe Fraizier....
much less a "prime" Tyson who would have had too much weight for a even match.....
I don't think I hit a hundred...but those were names in his weights of middle, super middle and Lt. heavy and heavies of @195- oust side of Canarra and Baer.....
Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey who lost to Fitziomons becasue he had TB.
Guys he might have beaten....but that compleatly unfair to jones in that was bare knuckle....
He might have beaten Fistziomons but that is debatable...He might have beaten a young Johnson, after alll Chroski(sp) did. Might have beaten Jefferes in a short fight.
Jones and Corbett would have been about even.
an old out of shape at 30 Sullivan yes...but not the Sullivan who foght a runner Kilbaine. in a fight to the finish.....
Jones could well have beaten Hart, Root, Tommy Burns, perahps a Willard. Philidelphia Jack O'brien....
Carpender would have has his number and either ofthe Gibbson brotehrs too.
He could ahve beaten Braddox, lost or Charles and Walcott and Marciano....Could have beaten Johanson, and lost to Liston....
could have danced around for 12 rounds vs Forman, if he didn't get hit. Holms would have beaten him. Tucker would have beaten himperhaps not.
Billy Conn and him would ahve been a good match up, I favor Conn.
Hagler and Suger Ray Leonard at Middle...and perhaps even Hearns...who after all could hit.


I didn't count, but thas a lot of names he'd have a hell of a lot of problems with, in that they wouldn't be worried what Jones is going to do next but what they was going to do to Jones next.

 

Which is what I thought he was going to do. Or simply retire after the Ruiz fight.
