you are right...roy was a great and talented fighter...audley and tye fields never were which is why you don't hear the fans telling them to quit. it's always been like that...talented fighters that changed the boxing game when they were younger will always be looked after. it happened with muhammad ali, it happened with sugar ray leonard, it's happening with roy jones and evander holyfield now. same can be said for any sport not just boxing.

Jones made good money for the type of second rate fighters he was fighting. He got paid well for fighting those types.
....but he never really made mega-millions like what DLH did and Mayweather and Pacquiao are today.

....Jones never got paid PPV type money because he never fought the PPV type of opponent he should have been taking on in his prime.
.....by the time he wanted to after those Tarver losses, his prime was gone.

I cant help but feel that Jones would be retired today had he subjected himself to better opposition when he could have.

I dont think Jones is satisfied with the way his career went or his paydays, which is why he's still active today even after getting ktfo several times.

 

I'm sure Roy made a fair bit, even from the likes of the Calzaghe fight which wasn't that long ago. That was Joe's big money fight.

 

The report was that Jones did'nt get paid a dime for the Hopkins rematch.
He had no guarantee and his pay ammount was contingent on his fight with Hopkins going over an X ammount of PPV buys.
......the fight did'nt sell and Jones did'nt collect a dime.

 

If Roy really is short of cash, it sounds like he's been living like a billionaire rather than a multi millionaire to me.

If this guy takes him out, surely he will know then that it's time to call it a day.

 

He should just do announcing instead...write a book...drop an album...something else..

yes, he was always a one dimensional fighter who avoided real challenges
without his speed and reflexes he is a mediocre fighter at best with no chin and little real boxing skills

perhaps he can set new getting knocked out records in a career or break his own, it's something at least
