Clearly, whether he gets W #60 or not, Jones is probably safe from picking up KO loss #5.

 

Sad and true. He was having balance issues years ago as a result of boxing. Old age is unlikely to be pretty for Roy.

 

His heavily in debt to the IRS, so I guess he has to keep on fighting

 

lol so much for boxing for the love of boxing.

 

I don't like to see fighters putting themselves in danger but if he's only fighting tomato cans and it keeps him from getting his kicks making dogs fight instead, more power to him.

 

Apparently Jones has been promised a shot at Marco Huck for the WBO Cruiserweight title . .. . .

 

Hopefully Jones wins and we get to see the Huck fight later this year.

Why do you want to see him fight Huck?

 

I can't imagine Roy is that hard up that he is risking brain damage fighting on just because he needs the money.

Between all he made in the 90's, plus all his other peripheral ventures (acting, music), plus his promotional business, plus his salary as HBO commentator - he can't possibly be failing to make ends meet. Even if he never paid a dime in taxes during his prime the account has to be settled by now.

In 2011 he was reported to have a net worth of $20mil.

He fights because he is stubborn and Quixotic (to a degree anyway, it certainly is no coincidence that every opponent since Lebedev has been a feather-fist), not broke.

 

I have seen him fight and Williams and although he is a club fighter, he is not a terrible fighter. Roy should beat him easily, but at 46 it is not a lock like it would have been even 5 years ago. If Williams is motivated and fights the fight of his life, he could hand Roy his worst loss. It is unlikely, but possible-and maybe not a bad thing in the long run.

 

Unless he is a damn sight better than Courtney Fry or Hany Atiyo, this is another easy night's work for Roy who can still put up the illusion of being close to his prime self cherry-picking opponents like this.

...and good on him. If anyone deserves a victory lap tour, it would be the guy that put the sport on his back for a decade and got written off pretty cruelly by the fickle majority of the fandom after hitting a rough patch.
