I just like to point out that I am drunk right now. But this still makes sense to me. I don't know if you are familiar with the story of the boiling frog. If you are not here it is. "The boiling frog story states that a frog can be boiled alive if the water is heated slowly enough it is said that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will never jump out. The story is generally told in a figurative context, with the upshot being that people should make themselves aware of gradual change lest they suffer a catastrophic loss." I'd like to point out before I go any further that I think RJJ was an amazing fighter and would have clearly beaten Calzaghe if they had met in their primes. When talking about whether RJJ is shot I probably have a different way of looking at it than most posters on here. For various reasons I have cancelled and reordered my Sky(UK) subscription over the last several years. Because of this the last fight I saw featuring RJJ before Tito was Clinton Woods, this was shown on the BBC. Jones clowned on Woods and if my memory is correct stopped him midway through the 12 rounds. Watching the first 3 rounds of RJJ V Tito I couldn't believe my eyes, Jones looked a geriatric in comparison to his old Superman act, a shadow of his former self. Ok he improved for the remainder of the fight, but not by much. I last saw BHop against Eastman and I have caught most of Calzaghe's fights, they have slipped a little bit, but not to the extent of RJJ. The point I am trying to make is that if you have seen all RJJ fights you might say to yourself, OK he's slowing down, but he still got it. I've only seen 2 fights 6 years apart and it is obvious Jones is shot to pieces.
*SIGH* This content is protected how is Roy Jones SHOT? Just because he isnt in the same physical shape he was in whe he was 29 doesnt mean he is SHOT.... in none of RJJ's previous 3 fights have i seen any indication that he is shot. To me he appears to have all of the necessary skills to compete at a World Class level...when he fought Ajamu...I believe Ajamu was ranked #8 by one of the Organizations @ LHW at the time and he dominated him over 12 rounds. (Not that Ajamu is a world champ, but Ajamu tried the Glen Johnson approach in that fight and failed due to Roy's viscious body attack) Just cause Michael Jordan towards the end of his career resorted to shooting jumpers and not driving the lane doesnt mean he was SHOT as a player. RJJ never received any punishment in his career until the age of 35 AFTER he dropped back to LHW from HW. People say RJJ has a glass chin, (which is just a myth)<<< ANY fighter can be KO'ed depending on his stamina at that time of the fight or where the punch was placed...it can happen to anyone... RJJ was 49-1-0 then lost 2 fights by KO...but does that mean he is SHOT?:huh I still believe that it was the fluctuation in weight that were major factors in his body not being able to respond the same way before be made the journey to HW. oh by the way...who says Roy Jones Jr doesnt have LEGS anymore? This content is protected :deal
Here's what I see in Roy. First lets start off by saying that its obvious that Roy is not the same fighter he was in his prime anyone that thinks he is is mentally handicapped. (btw I worship Roy :good ). What I have noticed though is that Roy has changed his style to suit his age and stamina to a great degree. No he don't jump around anymore and put his hands down to his sides and make people look like rejects, but he seems much more fundamentally sound. He learned how to catch shots on his gloves and he has a very stiff quick jab, super quick right hand and plenty of power to keep anybody honest. I think the reason why people think that he's so shot is because he don't fight the same style as he used to. During the Tito fight Tito did not land ONE meaningful punch, and yes I know Tito didn't have the power he used to but Tito still knows the game and knows how to box. Do I like the old Roy better? Of course I do. Do I have a problem with the way Roy fights now? No not at all. I really can't wait to see Roy vs Joe C, I think it will be a really good boxing match. I think Joe C is going to have a hard time landing clean meaningful punches and I think Roy should be able to counter often. The difference in this fight will be if Roy opens up offensively. I don't mean that he has to throw 100 punches per round but if he can consistently throw 3-5 punches at a time Joe C will have trouble with the speed and power of Roy. When Roy does this other fighters retreat. I also think Roy is getting better at fighting off the ropes and that will bode well for him against Joe C. Bottom line is if Roy can get off 50 punches a round he SHOULD win, if not Joe C will win on workrate alone ala Hopkins
