Once again we have a Joe Calzaghe fight coming up, two great fighters albeit passed their prime but nonetheless i'm really looking forward to this fight as it could be pretty exciting! I find it funny though that only a few weeks ago 95% of people on here were saying that RJJ had absolutely no chance of beating Calzaghe, that Calzaghe was fighting another old man etc etc Now i'm all for fightfans bigging up their fighter and getting hyped for a fight and being optimistic as any fight at this level could be 50/50 but suddenly now the media machine has starting hyping the fight it seems the opinions of your avergae ESB fan has followed suit and now suddenly RJJ is going to kick Joes ass, Roy is suddenly SUPER ROY again!! This hype and talk seems to make everyone that Joe fights the favourite to win against him, Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins ....are fans really so fickle or do people want Calz to lose so much that they jump on the bandwagon again and again? It's like Groundhod Day every couple of months on here! Come on Joe do us proud one last time and show these doubters who really is the man!
Calzaghe has always stated that he relishes being the underdog, so this will probably do him a big favour
Haha I was thinking along similar lines myself, feel out numbered by the people picking Roy and it's even knocking my confidence in Joe for this fight! The hype is building nicely though...
The reason Jones is being given a chance here is because of how ridiculously soft Calzaghe's hands are. Calzaghe's stock has dropped way down since his bout with Hopkins.
You are wrong... It has become an urban myth on this site that Kessler or Hopkins was the favourite going in to the Calzaghe fight. It is a statement made to boost the greatness of Calzaghe by his fans in here! Yes some people voted for a hopkins win and even more for Kessler, but Calzaghe was always the favourite both in polls and at the bookies. Same goes for his upcoming fight with Roy!
Exactly. Joe was picked nearly 2-1 and everyone was pissed he had challenged an old man. He was supposed to dominate that fight, but eeked out a win instead. His stock has plummeted ever since.

His stock has plummeted ever since.[/quote] To say his stock has plummtted is way over the top, he beat a light hw champion at the first time fighting at that weight, against a fighter determined to spoil and feign injury on foreign soil. Yes, it was scrappy and I didn't particularly enjoy the fight or thought that he fought that great either but it's a bit harsh to say his stock has plummeted. In the opinions of fair weather or fickle boxing fans it may have and that was my original point.
