Oh, of course. Jones isn't anywhere near the best fighter ever.

Hell yeah he was. All those Brit tomato cans could hardly cut it against B level American fighters when they tried. No chance vs Jones. NONE.

He is one of the best ever in pure ability but not thee best IMO... I don`t think he looks a better fighter than prime Ali, Duran, Leonard, Robinson, Whitaker, Chavez or Sanchez... you can certainly say he looks on their level but I would find it extremely hard to put him above any of them & not have severe doubts.

All fighters nowadays and in the past took on some soft touches as opponents, and Jones is no exception. However his resume is vastly underrated and I doubt, soft touch or not, we will ever see someone as dominant in the ring as him ever again. Didn't he go a stretch of something like three years without unanimously losing a round on all three judges cards? That is amazing.

going up to LHW from LMW with dominance is acheivement enough. Going to HW even for the smallest title fight. It beggars belief.

No wonder this guy is from The Matrix.

That is irrelevant in this thread though, the TS is obviously saying RJJ is the best fighter ever POUND FOR POUND, he obviously doesn`t mean head to head because the only ones in the discussion for head to head best ever would be the heavyweights..... if Roy was indeed too big for Robinson, it doesn`t translate into Roy being better pound for pound... if you get my drift ;)

Roy was starching and toying with top contenders. Prime Jones looks much better than Sanchez, Chavez (c'mon Bill) and Whitaker.

Prime Ali, Robinson, Leonard are pretty much the only guys that can match up based on pure gifts against Roy.

The fact that you had to dip down into the welters and lightweights in order to find someone as good as a guy who was peak at 168 shows how immensely talented Roy was.

    this thread is hillarious

how can anybody consider roy jones the best fighter ever :rofl

he looked great beating bums while juiced out of his eyeballs but jones has so many floors that would never allow him to ever compete with the true greats eg,

    - cannot adapt styles mid-fight to win :deal
    - cannot fight in adversity :yep
    - proven steroid cheat :-(
    - glass jaw
    - never beat a lineal or unified champion in his career :deal
