    Toney looked

Toney looked physically better against Williams, faster and sharper. So no comparison.Though I agree that the Jones has a diffiult style for the style of James Toney.

Not at all. Just wasn't a resume that you look back on and go "Yep, there's a true ATG/HOF'er that he beat". As soon as he met a very good fighter (Taylor), he lost. Twice.

I'll leave it to others from here, they've certainly put up some quality retorts.

    Jones>.....................................Toney

You want to dismisss that Toney, at the peak of his powers, lost badly to Jones, but hold it against Hopkins that he lost close fights to Taylor when 40 years old? How many 40-year olds have wins over the likes of Taylor?

Hagler didn't beat any true ATG MWs, neither did Monzon. Not even Louis, arguably the greatest HW ever, beat any ATGs.

People always bring up Bernard's age, yet forget that he started Boxing at a very late age and has a style which lends it's self to longevity. Try again.

Are you kidding me? Can't you see for yourself that he wasn't the same fighter at 40?

He had gone from an industrious search-and-destroyer to a conservative counter-puncher. 'Cause no fighter - absolutely no one - is the same physically at 40-years of age and 15 years as a pro.

If you can't see difference and how that would make him more vulnerable to young, fast fighters I won't waste any more time on you.

He's been a conservative counter-puncher forever. It was only in his early NABF days (IIRC) where he was really wrecking shop.

He's been a decision machine since like '97/'98.

He started to morph into a more low activity fighter around the turn of the millenia. And he definitely was a different type of fighter in 2005 than he was in the 90's. If you think the 2005 version was close to the peak version I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about. That's all I have to say about it.

    Jones easily.

Jones didnt even suffered his first real lost until he was like 35-36? Unbeaten throughout the 90's till 2004. Beat every top opponents at the time including Hopkins and Toney himself in title fights. He made Toney looks like tomato can level opponent, barely able to land anything meaningfull. Remember Jones also had victory over Tarver despite dropping lots of weight in their first bout.

Tarver's hook destroyed his chin forever though. I think post Tarver 2, even a 147 guy could probably KO Jones if they land one good punch to his chin lol.

Oddly enough Jones does not show any sign of brain damage despite getting KO multiple times, while Toney ....
