I'm inclined to agree. I would love to see that fight happen.

After Roy KO's Tito, it may still happen.

I'd pick Calzaghe against the current version of RJJ.

And then HBO offered him a fight for a career high, he turned it down. Same with Benn, who claims otherwise, so that's a wash. Eubank said he would never fight Jones in his own book and interviews cuz he thought he would lose.

I agree he did not market himself correctly when he was declining and his decision after the icing on the cake win against Ruiz was terrible.:D

Just imagine how much sweeter Roy's reputation around here would be if he had retired after Ruiz. He wouldn't have the first Tarver win, but he'd have gone out as a living legend and viewed as an untouchable.

Most of us view the prime Jones as close to that, anyway, but the casual fan now has the Tarver and Johnson fights imprinted onto the brains.

    Almost certainly not.

He's been badly beaten by guys Calzaghe would beat.

It depends what his problem was after the first Tarver fight. It's a small maybe.

In his prime, Roy would have beaten any version of Calzaghe in a very one-sided affair, possibly stopping him.

Other than Jones, Calzaghe would probably beat anyone ever at 168.

Larry Merchant's long-standing open disdain for Roy Jones is laughable. Larry will never give a boxer with true skills the credit they deserve -- he'll sing his praises for a guy like Pacquiao all day long because Manny takes just as much of a beating as he gives, but he can't stand a boxer actually utilizing his skills, speed and smarts to avoid punches (see: Roy, Mayweather). It's truly a miracle he's never been KTFO as byproduct of one of his smarmy comments.

I feel as though, even after being truly out of the big picture for the last three years, Roy's reputation as an ATG is already beginning to solidify.

What makes you think that Amsterdam, and also how do you think a fight between him and DM would have gone?

Well, he'd take Benn out in 7, winning every round, Benn has no chance.

Eubank absolutely lacked what was needed to trouble Roy, Roy is about as bad a style as it gets for Eubank.

Collins would get badly beaten and stopped, losing all rounds. Had nothing needed to even seriously take a round from RJJ.

DM gets pot shotted mostly, then thrashed later on, losing an extremely wide UD.

I think this because none of these guys were on any plane next to Roy, they were inferior to Bernard and James, definitely and only slightly better than many of the others that Roy was making look like C class fighters.
