I really like this Smitty guy as a commentator. Maybe it’s just that I have extremely low expectations for a commentator of this sort of broadcast, but he’s one of the fairer commentators in the sport from what I’ve heard in the first two broadcasts

First fight is Shae Green (3-0-1) vs. Gerardo Esquivel (0-1) over 4 rounds. It’s round 3 right now and there’s a legitimate case to be made that Esquivel is up 2-1 or even 3-0. Green has struggled immensely with the pressure of the upset minded Esquivel. Pretty entertaining opening fight however

I got this 3-1 Esquivel, Green didn’t shown any urgency and looked like he felt he was up in the last round when he probably should’ve been pushing forward and trying to either secure a draw or a win. Both commentators also think Esquivel did enough to win and Green’s corner doesn’t seem too confident

39-37 and 40-36 x 2, unanimous decision to Gerardo Esquivel. Great judging. Shae Green takes his first loss and he’ll probably beat himself up for it. He was clearly more talented, he just got sucked into the pressure from Esquivel

Commentators say there was plenty of talent on display from Carlos Hoshae Green, and that he still has upside and shouldn't be written off...just wasn't ready for this particular test.

I'm rooting for Taylor "Lights Out" Shirley on principle strictly because they said Luis "El Sicario" Iñiguez fights primarily in MMA (with a fight lined up in a couple of weeks) and uses his boxing career as more or less just a scratchpad to sharpen up his striking abilities for the sport he actually cares about.

Shirley is at least 100% committed to boxing.

Iñiguez gets ROCKED with a minute left in the second. Gigantic right hand scrambled his circuits and then a left hook caused his knees to further liquefy as he bobbles his across the ring and into the ropes, then lurched into Shirley - managing somehow to never go down, as he spends the final thirty seconds wrestling (big surprise, given his background) despite the ref screaming at him to stop.

That's a swaggering 10-8 for Lights Out, who almost lived up to his nickname there, showing that you can't play at boxing and this isn't something you can "moonlight" in while fucking around with other (inferior) combat disciplines.

Low-grade boxing (assuming its practitioner is all-in with it, full-time) >>>>>>>>>> even world class MMA striking, let alone if you're some 5-9-1 no-mark scrub (in pro MMA) like Iñiguez.

Shirley might've blown his wad in the second, having a bit of a struggle in round three, slugging clumsily - but he jolts Iñiguez badly with a stiff jab with 45 seconds left and takes over from there, maintaining control despite Iñiguez's attempts to grapple his way into a stalling clinch.

    30-26 Shirley
