Douglin is winning it ugly, impaling Guy on a few right jabs leaving it extended out like a pike while creeping backward into the ropes to lure him in. Guy is ducking so that Douglin's jab skids off his cheek and then winging hooks into Douglin's body while squatting in against him. Guy is roughing up the larger man on the ropes until either pushed down upon (neutralizing him long enough for Douglin to skirt away), tied up, or circumvented while Douglin pops short lefty 1-2s into his face.

Really fascinating bit of matchmaking. Guy is doing to Douglin what Douglin usually does to world class fighters. Losing but making it arduous, ugly work for Douglin.

 

Round 5

Douglin is tiring as his mom screams at him from outside the ring, leaning on the apron, imploring him to be first and not let Guy build up any momentum. Once he lands, Guy is mauling and wrestling, elbows clashing with Douglin's face and making him wince as he gets low and tries in vain to hold. Douglin backs straight out and Guy is able to zap him with a well-timed line drive right, which visibly hurts Douglin. After circling partway around Guy, a reach-in combo from Douglin is caught on the arms, then countered with another flush right hand.

What an upset this would be for Guy. Signature victory... way better than any of the prospects to whom Guy dealt their first or second loss.

 

Round 6

Douglin is popping the jab over Guy's head and looking to set up a left cross or roundhouse hook behind it, but Guy is undulating in a slinky and choppy rhythm, keeping a high guard, bobbing and weaving under Douglin's straight punches and then digging hard on the body. Guy hurting Douglin with some body hooks and then snapping up the planked right hand into his jaw when Douglin moves away in straight lines.

Round 7

Douglin is clinching as much as he can get away with now (fairly permissive ref). Douglin holding and hitting, favoring a left uppercut on the body. Guy is sweeping big wild hemispheric power shots up top, but Douglin is staying bent forward low enough to let them all sail over his back, while prodding Guy in the chest with the right jab to push him into range for his big left uppercuts to land. And they do, plentifully, several in a row without any clean reply from Guy.

Round 8

Douglin comes tapping in with the jab - and is BOWLED OVER like an upended turtle, landing on his back with his legs up in the air in the corner! Not a knockdown, however, apparently that was a stiff two-armed shove by Guy that just caught him in an imbalanced moment. Douglin is up and now putting on the pressure, intent on finishing this strong. Douglin wheezing through an open mouth, blood streaking down his left cheek from that still-open cut, but he is backing Guy up with the right jab and following through with left uppercuts in pursuit. Guy is letting up on the gas pedal, now, cowed by Douglin taking away the initiative and perhaps spent from his earlier work. With forty seconds left they begin to brawl with Douglin being muscled into the ropes. Guy eats a couple of flush counters but just keeps driving forth, bashing down with both fists on the face of Douglin. Both landing clean. Wild hooks by Guy, but at this close range they're landing as Douglin is too exhausted to move his legs or head.

I honestly can't guess how the judges have this. I could see as wide a range as 78-74 either way. (probably no wider, though, as each had 2-3 clear rounds)

WBC United States (USNBC) welterweight title at stake, 3rd defense of Golub.

 

González fits the Colombian boxing stereotype: 19-2-1 (15) record. He did, however, go eight with Radzhab Butaev in a UD loss without going down...and his subsequent stoppage loss to Jamal James was a corner retirement. So he may not be a total glass cannon..
