RJJ Promotions: Uaine Fa, Jr. vs. Devin Vargas & Ivan Golub vs. Janer Alfonso González Parejo RBR

I'm not sure Vargas is going to be the guy to force a good fight outta Fa. Dude's been around for a minute (and he wasn't exactly much of a handful even in his prime, when he took his first loss, by KO, to Kingpin Johnson)

He is coming off an upset over Niall Kennedy, but the big Irish galoot truthfully isn't very good. (at least in the pros)

 

10-9 Golub

 

So far this is a tit-for-tat contest, each taking a turn with his 1-2. Golub doing a better job slipping González's and then responding with counter left hand rocketing straight out as González is retracting his long arms. Golub sprinkling in a very light trickle of body shots, as well.

 

González awfully cocky and doing a lot of taunting for someone that hasn't done much of anything effective yet. Sure, he is making Golub miss a fair number of southpaw 1-2s as they fence at long range over these first two cautious feel-out rounds, but he is himself missing far more, and his own aren't even near-misses. He is backing into the corner and sticking his tongue out, beckoning Golub in, only to get dinged on the brain-pan with a left.

González had a brush glove the canvas but not ruled a knockdown. Wasn't really the result of a Golub punch anyway, more just his own clumsy flailing while throwing punches while retreating and losing (then attempting to regain) his balance.

González is keeping his chin held rigidly, up in the air, tiptoeing around Golub and maintaining an erect spine, tall & upright, banking on Golub not being able to reach such a high-up moving target. Indeed, most of Golub's right jabs are falling a bit short of the chin, and he is keeping the left holstered. González is waiting until Golub slides his right foot inward and doubles up on the jab, and then lashing down on him with a windmilling right hand, but Golub is able to step diagonally back and clockwise to dodge. A few rear-handed straight body shots from both guys as they circle, but only just grazing. This is a cagey spar.

Golub seems to suffer from acute Mikael Zewski syndrome. (treating pro fights as just glorified practice sessions, with no sense of urgency and no apparent improvement from one performance to another)

 

That is his actual name.

His first name isn't "Junior".

 

This isn't the co-main event, btw - there's another unbeaten Kiwi heavyweight being featured before Fa.

John Kevin Alipate Hemi "The Heat" Ahio is 15-0 (10), in tonight with Southern boy Joshua Tufte (who got stopped in 2 rounds by Adam Kownacki and lost a UD to Curtis "I Quit, Before the 1st Bell" Harper of all people).

I wonder if RJJ Promotions is playing the long game and hoping to pair them on cards together for a while to drum up fan interest before cashing them out against each other down the line?

 

...and for his part, González is more of a codependent enabler than a game opponent. He seems thrilled at the idea of losing a wide UD here.

 

50-45 Golub, winning on the jab. Really not much happening. González doing more posing than punching, but did land a right hand at the bell.
