...yeah, I fear González is too durable and too much of a spoiler for Golub to get rid of - and conversely, even if his power was the real deal and not just your typical South American inflated KO ratio, he is fighting like too much of a pussy to crack Golub's chin (which isn't even remotely shaky anyway). We're definitely getting another four complete rounds of this.

 

Was he a good amateur?

 

Every time González starts feeling saucy and opening up on Golub, he winds up eating several consecutive body shots and not liking them, and fleeing outside... as Golub just lets him off the hook.

 

70-63 Golub

González lands a hard right hand early in round eight. Huge shot, both men vibrated with the impact visibly, but Golub hardly even blinked at it. González was emboldened anyway, landing several more teardrop rights on the face of Golub, who just swallows them no problem.

Things settle into a lull in the second half, Golub pushing jabs up past the head and González folding himself over to one side with his earmuffs on as his adrenaline wanes. Neither landing anything.

Clear round for González, but he took his best shot and clearly is unable to kayo Golub. Expect him to revert to spoiling in the ninth & tenth.

Ooh, shenanigans. Between rounds, before the start of the 9th, the corner of González was lodging a protest with the ref & commission. They say they were told it was an eight-rounder, and so they already believed it to be over. But...here we are, Rd 9.

 

That explains why he went all-out in round eight, actually. He thought it was last chance to push for a come from behind KO. Then when it didn't happen, after having that minute or so worth of success, he grinned and shrugged, like "oh well, at least I get to hit the showers in a sec..."

 

Amateur hour. González's coach spend the whole ninth reading through his contract (in the hopes of finding where it specified the # of rounds) instead of watching the fight.

Gross negligence of the fighter, inexcusable.

 

89-81 Golub.

 

Golub pushing his jab, looking sluggish as he pursues González and flips his elbows out to parry González's left jabs on his arms.

Golub finds a spot to land a left cross, and González is hurt. Golub stalks and follows up with more straight lefts. González's coach is nowhere to be seen, not even paying attention while González eats a few more hard lefts. González down hard, and out.
