Hopkins had more pro fights than Roy, and was ranked higher by the IBF.. This was both of their first title fights, they were both young.. Neither would truly lose a fight for nearly a decade... This was a great win in hindsight. At the time it didn't seem like a big deal, but looking back on what Hopkins went on to achieve, it was a great win, some wins get better with time, this is a perfect example.

    They wouldn't do would they?

    1. Were any of those guys publicly slandered?

    2. Did Floyd demand the same tests on his opponents BEFORE his Daddy opened his big dirty mouth?

The answers to the above questions are NO!

This isn't a Mayweather/Pac thread. I'm sure you could find a few of those if you archive, though.

People talking **** about Hopkins being green. Just because he wasn't an olympian? FFS the GF blows my mind sometimes. Hopkins had about 100 amateur fights and pretty much dominated until he met Roy who did it with a BROKEN HAND.

There was a damned good reason he hung at 160 until Roy was finally sparked out.

As for the thread, it's Roy, and it's not very close.

Whitaker was #1 mate. Being #2 in that era is cool beans though.

Ruiz was ranked #7 after he let a LHW come up and take his title, he must have been somewhere in the top 5 previously.:yep

Ruiz gets hated on because he has an ugly ass style that is horrible to watch, and that Don King got him lots of good fights.. But the fact is, the guy never went away, why? Because as ugly as he fought, it was effective, and he did beat some good fighters.

For as long as he was able to compete with some of the best HW's in the world, giving them tough ugly fights, to see a much smaller Roy Jones move up and dominate, has to mean something... It was a risk I can't see Mayweather taking...

I also don't think there is a way in hell Roy Jones would have missed out on 40mil for a fight, no matter what. Even to fight Lennox.

Ability wise, they are close, but clearly Roy.. Resume not as close actually.
