Ruiz is not a "big" heavyweight... But he is a heavyweight, and compared to Jones he was a "huge" heavyweight.

You said that since Byrd held his own with the super heavyweights there is no way Jones could beat him....

I say Ruiz held his own and beat some of those same fighters, but could not beat little Roy.

So you obviously should not use that shitty standard of yours to assume the outcome of fights.:deal

It's very difficult to really prove Roy ducked any opponents. The names Eubanks, Benn, DM, Collins and a few others often get brought up when judging Roy's resume.

DM is just as much to blame for the fight not happening as Jones. Both were earning good money and neither wanted to risk going abroad to fight and with Jones being robbed in the olympics who can blame him. Though this fact doesn't absolve Jones from not at least trying harder to make this fight happen.

Eubanks didn't want the fight and based on his own cherry picking of opposition it's ludicrous to blame Jones for this fight not happening.

Benn clearly wanted this fight and while offers were made, there clearly wasn't enough money for either fighter for the fight to happen.

Collins also wanted this fight and truely believed he could beat Jones. Even after he retired he said he would come back if a fight with Jones could be made. In fact he did try and make a come back and had planned an easy return fight and then a fight with Jones but the discovery of scar tissue on the brain having collapsed after sparring with Howard Eastman curtailed the chances of this fight ever happening.

I really don't believe Roy ducked any opponents and I am 100% confident that he would have beaten Benn, Collins, Eubanks and DM should they have ever fought.

But having said that it cannot be denied that Jones did take the path of least resistance. His resume I believe is actually very good but could have been better and while he may have had no control in ever making these fights happen he never displayed the desire to force these fights to happen. Fighters in the past have taken pay cuts, travelled and given up other concessions to make the fights that will define their legacy but Roy never showed any inclination to really strive to be the best he could be.

I used to be a huge Roy Jones fan and still believe he is the greatest fighter I will probably ever witness in a ring in my life time but he never lived up to his immense talent. He truly could have been a top 5 ATG if he had wanted it. His decision to move up from a very competitive supermiddle weight division in 96 to a light heavyweight division devoid on any real stars, for me totally encapsulates what Jones did wrong with his career.

Look at what happened to your boy Bird when he came down to LHW most recently. Does he have a glass jaw too?

I have to say I am with Rumsfield mostly on ths one. I was always dissing RJJ for his choices of least resistance. I am not gonna do a 180 and act like I thought he wasnt a Cherry Picker.

RJJ the greatest skilled Cherry Picker of all time.

Bullcrap, if Roy fought Byrd instead of Ruiz then you would be picking Brewster and Ruiz over Roy. Your hate is straight forward and clear with no facts to back them up at all either. Funny how you pick Brewster at a time when he was an unknown and still didn't fight Wladimir, he was also looked at as a tomato can at the time yet you "saw it coming" that he would become champion, huh?

Mention the opponents he could have fought but didn't please. If fighting and beating champions is cherry picking then I don't know what is fighting anymore.

Let me ask you this, Scar.

Did RJJ do EVERYTHING in his power to consistently fight the best available opponent? Answer honestly?

If he didn't, that doesn't necessarily imply 'cherry-picking', but in all seriousness?

Did Jones do EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER to make the best fights happen? Say, in the same way an all-time great like Ali did?

You are an idiot. What don't you understand here? I am talking about had Roy stayed at Heavyweight AFTER he beat Ruiz and fought Byrd (who called him out after he beat Ruiz) or Brewster AFTER he beat Wlad in April of 2004. Is this too hard for you to understand? :huh

Roy did not immediatley drop his belt he entertained other fights at Heavyweight but went back down. He could have stayed at Heavyweight and fought some of the smaller Heavyweights but instead he tucked tail and ran back down to Light Heavyweight and got brutally KOed twice.

My whole point is Byrd and Brewster would have been tougher fights for Roy than Ruiz so why would I criticize Glass Jaw Roy for not fighting Ruiz had he chose to fight Byrd instead?

Roy Jones is without doubt an ATG?....The question mark will always be there because of his sometime resistance to take risks and the cloud of steroids that is rumormed about him.....I personally believe he was an incredible athlete who had some of the most natural gifts i witnessed.I followed his whole career, and sometimes was frustrated with his reluctance of opponents and his reluctance to take in ring risks.....But with all that said he still was an incedible fighter who deserves to be mentioned along other ATG's.....
