He's a formidable package but he's hardly flawless. He eats jabs like Pacman does power pellets, his defence could be better and while his chin has looked very good so far what happens when he does one day face an opponent that can hurt him. That may not happen at middleweight but he's almost certain to move up at some point in the search of bigger fights.

He simply hasn't faced good enough opponents yet to ask the big questions like what happens if he's hurt or dropped? What happens if he's forced onto the back foot by an opponent. Can he come back from adversity can he adapt if things don't go his way.

 

Tbh, there's so many holes in that argument.

 

Well technically, he has been hit by a guy who used to get KO's at LHW and barely flinched.

 

His chin has looked rock solid so far no doubt about that. But even iron chinned warriors like Froch, Toney, Hopkins, Holyfield etc have been downed and hurt it would be dangerous to think he can't be hurt.

 

I know. I'm not saying he's gonna have that chin forever. But so far, he really doesn't get hit that cleanly very often. Of course the competition isn't top notch, but we'll see how he adapts once the time comes.

They both have reasonable resumes but both lack a real signature win... roughly even, as you say - about 3 top ten guys each.

Kovalev at least has potential top name opponents at LHW (Hopkins, Stevenson, Pascal, even a shot to hell Dawson perhaps), whereas Golovkin may have to go to 168 to find a marquee fight.

 

In the Adama fight he was pretty relaxed throughout, but I saw no signs of him slowing. In the Stevens fight his workrate in 6-8 was formidable - in round 8 he was throwing almost continually for the full 3 minutes.

The furthest he's been extended was 10 rounds in the Ouma fight and again he finished stongly (despite his final build-up having been far from ideal).

It is fair to say that we haven't seen GGG pressured over the full 12 yet, so we can't be 100% sure, but I've seen nothing to make me think he has any stamina issues.

Haters want to see GGG losing to say that he was a hypejob but they forget that u can't be a hypejob with such a great amateur career where he beat lots of top guys. Geale will be stopped, as well Cotto, Canelo and Quillin if they will fight GGG.

 

GGG had a stellar amateur career. Since turning pro, he's shown that he has the ability to punch authoritatively and also take a punch very, very well. That is a mix of attributes that a lot of prospects don't collectively possess.

I'd like to see him fight Cotto or Alvarez after Geale, then Ward after he inevitably moves up.

 

That fight was disgusting, really hated staying up to watch that.
